100 franc gold vs. common date US gold

Are these approximately equal value (I know, it's in the eyes of the beholder, and who is willing to pay)..

I might be gravitating to collecting US gold as opposed to foreign at the moment.

Would I be getting ripped if I offered to trade a 100 franc gold piece for a MS common date liberty head gold ($20) ?
(I approximate the US potion about about $700 retail, using APMEX as the guide there)...

gold content is about equivalent, just a matter of tastes IMHO.

Im leaning just selling on the bay.

I might be showing my hand too much just by posting this, but what the heck, I dont have to do anything with it.

As a collectable, I like the French coin. For potential future profit, I would go with the US coin. JMHO.

To answer your question: I don't think you would be getting ripped off.

I had the 100 kinda drop in my lap,
I got it to just have a representative, since I already had a 5,10,20,40,50 franc gold.
Since then I picked up a 100 franc angel (my avatar) in better shape (no rim dings), so I wont have a "hole" at 100 if I trade this.

I have a st. gaud $20, but not a liberty. the prices are rising all over for gold, so I figure a trade would be the most sensible.

    thanks for your opinion image

If this is the 100 francs in question, I believe that even a 1904 $20 in mint state is worth more actually. These 100s are expensive and scarce in MS but in lower conditions (this one looks VFish) they don't sell that much above BV in my opinion.

    What Dimitri said.

    Nice coin! Big gold! Yeah!

But a US double eagle would probably be more in demand. If you can swap Napoleon III for Lady Liberty, go for it.
