Submission results: 1981 Topps BB Cello box bust and more

Not really a great result IMHO. I felt I would do a little better on the 81s. I honestly believed that they all had good shots at 9. I couldn't tell the difference between any of them. For example, I have no idea why one of the Lopes received a 10 while the other wound up an 8. Now I am glad I sent in multiple copies of some of the 81s. Oh well, I may need to stick with the 70s cards as I think I have a better understanding of grade potential in that decade. It was a fun experience breaking open the four cello boxes all the same and then sending them in for grading. In addition, you can get these cards quite cheaply. I sure wish the 77s were as inexpensive. image

Not bad, overall - the 1981 set isn't an easy one for grading to begin with. Certain cards, like the Johnny Bench, are even tougher because of print marks that are quite prevalent. Getting mostly 9's, and a 10 is a good job.

Good job Bobby! That Lopes looks to be the first 10. That 1976 Cey in a 9 is also a nice score. Were you surprised at the number of 8's? That is a tough set! I am still looking for a nice Sutter to complete my all stars from that year. With him getting into the Hall, a lot more folks should be getting his stuff graded.

    Thanks guys,

I was surprised at all the 8s. It was a good learning experience for me regarding the 81 set though. I am glad that many of you gave me good advice prior to my submission. This is one reason I "stacked the odds" in my favor by submitting multiple copies of some players. Overall, I am happy. I wish I would have done better but at least I didn't bomb entirely. That Sutter does seem like a toughie based on my limited experience. Every 81 Sutter copy I have is horribly centered. Good luck to all of you as well and let us know how you are doing with your submissions. I think looking at others' results is my favorite part of this board. Bobby
