vending busts - 78t football - grades realized

just purchased one vending box of each from bbce. i received an 85t fb wax today. i'm going out of town until the weekend and hope to get scans from the 85t fb wax up sunday evening. i won't have vending scans up until next week. wish me luck. these bust threads are great...i'm just glad i can participate in one and hopefully others enjoy seeing what others pull as well.

scans added: these are the 4 best cards from the box. there were a few other commons.

Thanks,

David (LD_Ferg)

well, 78t fball vending is NOT recommended....argh.... i've went thru an inch of the vending box and almost every one is OC or damaged on the corners. i knew i was taking a chance with vending. oh well, i hope i have better luck with the rest of the box and the other 2.

    Thanks,

Don't be discouraged. The 78 basketball vending box was not looking good for the first inch or two. Then the good cards started. My 1980 vending box was horrid on both ends. The middle was gold. Good luck.

I always find that to be the case with vending. You just gotta hope the gold area is where the big names sit. Nothing worse than the top card in the set being one of the first few or last few cards in a vending box. I opened a 79 bb and the 3rd card was an Ozzie. Beautiful centering but the edges were toast because of being so thightly packed.

ld- looking forward to some scans! I like all the issues you purchased so any scan will suit me. I hope everything turned out better for you as you got to the center of the boxes.

i'll get some scans up shortly. i got a nice drew pearson and i'm just now getting back to finishing the 78t fb vending. my daughter hit a deer tonite, so i've been a little preoccupied. she is ok, the car is not, but that can be replaced.

i'm finished with the box. very disappointed in the condition, but satisfied that i did it because it was fun going thru them an reminiscing (sp?). here's a scan of the majority of the cards..at least 90% of the box is this way or worse... image

i should be glad i even got cards of these players...with 500+ in the set, i am lucky to have gotten 1 in any condition.

i'll bust the 78 bkb and 79 bsb tomorrow.

some of the cuts on these cards are as bad as the 81 donruss..haha image

i hope i don't sound like i'm bashing or complaining too much about this box...because i thoroughly enjoyed opening it.

how would psa treat rough cuts on this set? i know they are lienient on the OPC issues but what about regular issued topps? the rough cuts are very obvious on this box.

    Thanks,

Glad your daughter is ok and great attitude that the car can be replaced. Those 78's can just be naughty some times. Almost true diamond cuts.

Nice cards, the Payton looks awesome except the bottom left corner.

Great stuff ldferg! Thanks for sharing. image
My luck with my 1979 fb cellos over the weekend was much better than yours was with the vending.

Opening this stuff is a crap shoot, but a fun one.
    Keep the scans coming ...

Also, good to hear your daughter is fine image

Rough cuts you should be alright. But if there is any chipping where you can see the inner cardboard, I have gotten the boom lowered on these. Good luck and let us know. I shipped off 2 orders in the last week so hopefully they will be quick.

you can probably tell which cards came from wax vs the vending? i had purchase 3 wax packs in addition to the vending:

i must have missed a surface crease on the stingley. the oj was GEM under a 10x...i will check it over once received as well and see if i can see where i went wrong.
