wow it has been awhile but love the boards

I collected and sold for several years and always read this board(02-04). I got married, had twins and got into real estate(cards couldn't pay the bills)

so anyway I am looking for the following to get started in my childhood nostalgia quest

1985 donruss factory set
1977 topps baseball set(my birth year)
1983 and 84 topps sets baseball

1989 UD Griffey rookies in bulk

1984, 85 and 86 topps football set

a partial vintage set I could work on for a couple of years? (1960-1975)

I also am working on a 1986-87 fleer set (PSA 8 or better) so any singles, graded stuff would be awesome

I want to start building relationships and being a COLLECTOR for the first time in my life. I always dealt as a college student and young man and just want to collect FOR FUN! The thrill of the chase

I have about 300.00 tucked away for a rainy day and I was hoping I could get some stuff here or on ebay in the next week or so!

These boards are great and really have kept me up with the market in my two year hiatis(sp)

Nice to have you, as far as 84 Topps go I am currently working on this set and have about 6.5% completed, started at end of August or so. Do not have any doubles at this time, and just trying to buy 3-4 a week. Any questions feel free to ask if I can help.

I guess I need to be clear as well

I am only working on a PSA fleer basketball set at this time. The rest of the stuff can be raw!

I just want to get in it slowly. I love the fleer basketball set and would love to pick up some cheap 8's or nice 9's to work on my set

I need alot! I think I have about 25-35 graded singles and 15 that are in ultra pro holders to be sent to PSA(from two years ago).

I have enough of the stuff raw to build some sets but it would take me weeks to go through and sort and build.
If you want a good, honest dealer who has most of the stuff you are looking for try baseballcardexchange.com

He is mostly an unopened dealer but i believe he has a lot of the sets you are looking for. Just go to the website and look under complete sets.

Good luck on that set, I just started (as of yesterday) working on the 1988-89 Fleer basketball set. Will give me a break from working on the 84 Topps set. Hope to see you round the boards.

I thought for sure that you were him.

    that site is awesome.

    it is bbcexhange.com

I would be happy to order a vending box and put scans up if you want to have a weekend break? I would like to spend about 150.00 or less so if you want to pick a product that we both like we could get a vending box or wax box and put scans up from both orders. I have my cc ready to order so let me know.

If not I may just buy a little bit of several items(85 fleer packs, 85 football grocery pack, etc)

I thought about buying a 1986 topps baseball vending case for 100.00 or a 3 box rack case for 45.00

vending or racks better on the black borders?

I also have in my cart a 84 topps vending box for 20.00

I am considering a vending 83 box for 50.00 because of sandberg, boggs and gwynn?

perhaps one of each would be cool instead of the 86 stuff

I think most people would suggest the 3 box rack case for the 1986 baseball. Vending is hit or miss - and the black borders tend to chip on the vending boxes.

I have a 81 vending box coming again sometime this week if you want to do a box break. Vending is ok for building raw sets, but dont ecpect too many high graded cards from vending. Rack is always going to yield the best quality, but will be somewhat higher.

I also agree that the 86 topps bb 3 box rack case for $45 bucks is better than the vending case. It's a good deal that will yield better quality cards.

I agree also. I bought a vending case and a 3 rack box case and the racks yeilded far better cards.

On the 83T set - I bought a total of 3 vendings from Steve at BBCEx and I don't know if you saw my post but I pulled two really nice Rynos.

I'm not going to have the set graded - it will be in a binder.

GregM and myself bought some of these 86 Fb vending a few months back. I was fairly pleased by the stars I received (2 rices, 2 youngs and other stars) However if you are looking for anythng gem mint I wouldnt bother. I would say both my Rice's would probably grade out an 8 as would most of the box. my Cards looked good until you look at them under magnification then you can see a lot of chipping on those green borders. Centering can also be a problem with the 86 set. But if you want a good thrill of searching an unopened box the 86 is a good one.

I will be submitting this one with my club sub from last year that I never did.

The corners are sharp enough impale a ryno! Get it? image

    Thanx for the kind words
I think it has a good chance at a 10?

80's collector, you can always join me on the 85 Baseball I havent started them in the registry yet but have a lot sitting at PSA and a lot more waiting to go in. There are very few people attempting the 85's and I need someone to be a peer with me. Come on along...............

I have heard you alot the past few weeks talk about a 10X loop. I had never used one but got maybe 10% tens, 60% 9's and 28% 8'sand a few mistakes(surface wrinkles).

my question is where do I get a 10x loop? I always submitted stars and 8's made decent money but with commons now I better get 9 or 10's or I will get buried fast.

I may just go with a 83 topps baseball vending(50.00) but I will order one or the other the 86 vending football
or a 83 vending and a 86 baseball rack box or 3 box case

80's I may need to talk to you about acquiring some of them after all of my submissions come back. There are certain cards i know I pulled from that case that arent centered well enough to be sent in. The ones that come to mind at the moment are the Record breaker and All star cards, Rickey henderson and Pete rose.

  • I have recently purchase a 10K lot of 86 Topps Football from Rack Packs and a 1978 Topps Football Vending Case about
6 months ago. I would have to agree with the others about how tought the 86's are. They look like 10's but are probably
8's. I am selling (2) 86 T Football sets with only (1) Rice and (1) YOung to someone else for $100.00 and 400 very nice
    78 Topps Football cards at .10 each (stars, RC's commons)(8's and possibly 9's from cuts C and D) for $140.00 + $10.00
shipping. I can offer you the same deal if interested. You can email me at JLivezey41@cs.com. Thanks and best of luck
    with your box breaks.
