I.D.ing 1963 Mantle

I possess this card and unlike the 1963 Exhibits Statistic back card it has a blank back. I am having trouble identifying it. I was told it was an "Exhibit Trading Card, Catalog W461"? Anyone have an accurate description of it?.

Also, sorry about the attachment. Can anyone tell me the steps to embed a photo right in my post

Thanks

  • I don't know anything about the card, but to embed your attached photo, you first need to post with the attachment. Then, right-click the attachment link and click Copy Shortcut. Now, go into Edit your post, click the Picture button (between U and http) and past the copied shortcut into the field.

I was also thinking that "THe Mick" looks mighty young for that to be a 63 card, looks more like a 54-56 version. But I am no expert. Heck i'm not even a novice.

Your card looks like the 62 Exhibit - but those are stat backs. Very interesting.

And the 47-66 exhibit Mantle looks different.

That is a 47-66 exhibit, batting w/ pinstripes pose.

To tell if it's original, just look at the back. It should be a very light golden brown and you should see signs of toning around the edges which may not be even on all 4 sides. The reproductions generally lack the toning and have whiter backs.
  • First of all I have to say THANKS AGAIN GUYS !!!! You are freakin outta control great with this stuff and I really appreciate the responses !!!

Phreakydancin - Thanks for the picture tutoring !!

Tennessbanker - Thanks for the chart !!

Mike - I agree he does look too young in that photo to be a'63.
It actually had a sticker with it that said "50's Exhibit Trading Card Catalog W461", but the only photo I could find was also the Stat Back so I also said Hmmmmmmmmmmmm image
(I have the other one that you attached also)

A761506 - Thanks for the info, it has all the criteria you listed

    Judging by TB's Chart I think it's narrowed down to a '57-'59

Are you all "email notified" if something is posted to this original thread? I've been curious if everyone that replies to the thread originally will see the follow up (like this).

    Anyway, Thanks again guys
