Do you think he is the seller, or do you think he consigned it to somebody?

Word is he is done collecting GAI

    Good for you.

    That didn't take long.

I guess GAI will have to work out a few more private gradings for dealers to make up for it...

Looks like a stolen scan and scam to me.
  • GAI's site has a scan of it in the Dmitri Young section

The scan is distinctly different than the one on the GAI website, but I still suspect shady dealings in the auction.

It would seem very odd for Dmitri Young to liquidate a single card in his collection like that on eBay. Heck, why would he sell any of them, he couldn't possibly need the money. He made $8M last year and he'll make $8.5M this year and something tells me the most prestine Rod Carew rookie card in the world would still be like pocket change to someone with that much income.

And if he were selling them all, I would take a guess that they would find their way to Mastro or REA, as he certainly went through them at some point to acquire some of those cards.
  • Carew29Carew29 Posts: 4,025 ✭✭

I requested a scan of the back of the card-----as i bet the horses on a daily basis, i'm betting i don't get a scan of the back.
  • digicatdigicat Posts: 8,551 ✭✭
Hmm, notice that the scan from the GAI site has their "1st Graded" label, while the one on Ebay doesn't. Maybe he didn't want doubles?

I agree the auction looks like a scam. Does GAI really think the card will be worth more if it has anyones name on it? Dmitri Young? The guy is an average plus baseball player. Sorry Dmitri. I wouldn't pay more for that card or any other from a player, movie star, etc collection. It's not like it is an MVP, silver slugger or world series ring.
  • Auction has now been removed, looks like you guys may have been right on this being a scam.

Interesting. Raises the question how much of a premium would a person pay for a card from a professional athlete (or other celebrity) collection!? I think people would pay extra for that. I am not a D-Young fan but I still found the notion intriguing and considered a bid... and I don't even collect GAI.

I think we're all missing the point here.

It's obvious Dmitri Young has sold off his GAI cards so he can join the PSA family. We should be focused on this.

Let's all give Da Meahook a warm PSA welcome! image

That's a good question. Judging by prices realized, I think people pay way too much of a premium. At least in this case, you know the person who owned it... as opposed to that Mr. X garbage on the over-graded T206's.
  • Carew29Carew29 Posts: 4,025 ✭✭

If that's the case i would justs send a couple of Goombah's for little sit down.
