HEY 1975 TOPPS EXPERTS!! Question about grading.

I have an important (at least to me) question about grading 1975 Topps cards. There may be other issues this way, but I just now noticed this on 75 Topps. It has to do with VERTICAL centering.

I just noticed that location of the PLAYERS NAME (up and down) varies greatly from card to card. On one card the name will be "so far" down from the border of the picture, and then the next one will be further down towards the edge of the card, and the the next one may be very close to the border of the picture. NOW, for instance, if you have three cards and the PICTURE is centered perfectly, and first card appears to have perfect vertical centering, the second card may appear to be centered down vertically, and the third card may be centered up vertically. YET THE PICTURE IS CENTERED PERFECTLY.

Along the same line, I know it varies from different card to different card. I haven't had the time to investigate, but does it vary from each example of the same card (ie from one George Brett to another George Brett)?

How should I treat this? How does PSA treat this?

I will be listing on Ebay a 1975 Topps set (among a complete run from 1970 to present) within the next month. I am one of the few sellers of vintage sets that grades EVERY SINGLE CARD and gives a complete rundown of how many of each grade are in the set, plus the grades of each star card. This is a very important question to me because I am working on this 75 Topps set and just now noticed the centering problem on some cards.

By the way, this set is VERY nice. It is averaging NM to NMMT all the way through.

Hopefully everyone understood my question. If not, if I have the time tonight, I might scan a couple of examples to show what I am talking about. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Edit to say: I started to give a card an EX or EXMT grade because of the vertical centering. The corners, surface and edges were AT LEAST NMMT. That's when I noticed the problem.

    Hi Frank

What I can tell you about the 75s you must take into consideration that these are non border cards which did not leave too much of a guide on where the cards should have been cut from the sheets basically 132 card sheets so therefore that is why there are so many inconsistencies. In your traditional border cards you at least have the white border to go by however even then many sheets are cut poorly(quality contol issues)resulting in off centering and this is why you may find a certain card that is notorious for being off center because when sheets are cut you are looking at blocks of simalar sheets being cut at once.I have owned many 75 topps both mini and regular issue and you will find that a certian players card will look absolutely the same with the exact same centering either off center or dead on.The 75s in my opinion are some of the nicest looking cards ever made however if you are looking for consistency forget about it that will definetly be a big challange however very rewarding if you do.In my opinion if the cards have nice corners and are not miscut and have no other flaws you should have a near ex mt at the very lowest.
