Paul was one of my favorite fellow coin collectors before he became ill with alzheimers. I bought quite a few obw rolls from him back in the 1970's and 1980's.

He was a heck of a major league baseball player too!

May he rest in peace.

Sports Illustrated did report what we coin collectors knew. After major league baseball games Paul would search for coins using his metal detector in the stadium stands!!!!

Now how many coin collectors can say that????

He WAS a bit eccentric.

His final year was with the New York Yankees in 1978.

He beat the NY Mets in game 3 of the 1973 World Series in relief.

I recall that he pitched for Oakland in the 1960's... had no idea he was a coin collector. It is very sad and unfortunate he is not here to share his stories... whether MLB or coins.

I do remember his name from that darn Oakland team that beat my Orioles twice in the playoffs.

So that was '72 and '73 that Oakland managed to beat them O's? I guess I just forgot who the A's beat, but it had to be Baltimore because it was not Detroit, Boston, NY, Cleveland and Washington was already in Texas if memory serves to be correct.
