Anyone hear any rumors about him going to Oakland??

  • I'd be pi**ed if that was true. Never heard this, where are you hearing it. Highly doubt it, DC should stay, forget about last year. Seems alot of Vikings fans hate the guy, pick your reasoning. I like him, he is a top 5 nfl back.

    Moss should come back HERE.
    Am I speaking Chinese?

  • Forget that, Raiders can have him. Give us back Randy and you take Culpepper, even up. Viking's didn't start winning until Culpepper got hurt. He's had one good year, thats it. He's been in the league for six years, thats not a good average.image
Culpepper to ?, only God knows at this point!
  • Ok, I'll say two good years, but other than that nothing.

Huh? I'm by no means a Culpepper fan, but 2 good years?

2000 - starter for the NFC in the pro bowl, 3,937 passing yards, 33 TDs, 98 QB rating.
    2001 - injured for 5 games, 64% completion percentage, 2600 yards
2002 - his worst qb rating year, but still but up nearly 4000 yards (3857), and a 60.7% completion percentage
    2003 - qb rating 96.4, 3500 yards, 25 TDs and 11 INTs, completed 65% of his passes
2004 - qb rating 110.9, 4717 yards (!), 39 TDs and 11 INTs, and wins MVP if Peyton doesn't have a career year
2005 - injured in week 7, still completes nearly 65% of his passes, but has a lot of INTs.

I'd be willing to bet there are few teams in the NFL he wouldn't be starting for.

  • St. Paul Pioneer Press -

    Vikings may trade Culpepper

    BY CHARLEY WALTERS
    Pioneer Press

) It now seems that the Vikings will trade troubled quarterback Daunte Culpepper to the highest bidder, which could be Oakland or Baltimore, in early March. The Raiders have the No. 6 pick and the Ravens No. 13 in April's draft. Arizona and Miami also could be in the running. Raiders owner Al Davis has an affinity for reclamation projects.

Moving Culpepper for at least a first-round draft pick and a bona fide starter would solve the Vikings' quarterback conflict, allowing Brad Johnson, who would be 38, to start in coach Brad Childress' West Coast offense next season. The Vikings then would have to use a first-round pick to draft a QB to develop and sign a veteran backup, perhaps free agent Chris Weinke of the Carolina Panthers and St. Paul.

) You have to wonder whether Culpepper's recent 45-minute phone conversation with Childress went sour.

    ok ok top 3.

You think McNabb is a better QB?
  • I can think of a few (not many) I'd rather have:

    P Manning
    M Hasselbeck
    Tom Brady
    Jake Delhomme
    Carson Palmer (before injury)

I'd lump him in with Bulger, Green, Leftwich, McNabb and Brees to name a few.

Better than some, not as good as others.

    Plus, he has small hands.

Palmer had one GOOD year and your ready to give him top 5 QB honors, Last year people were wondering if Kitna would have to come back in.

Jake Delhomme- is awful. Easy as that.

Bulger- solid but not ahead of Culpepper
    Green- Great system QB.
Leftwhich- Future star qb but not on culpeppers level
Brees- Being close to SD and watching every game, he is no where close, he has talent but isnt a solid player. LT carries the load makes defenses forget about the pass.

Wilf will trade Culpepper most likely, looks like he is starting fresh. If to the raiders Great! I could see my two favorite Players reunite. That team on offense would be incredible.

    Culpepper
    Moss
    Jordan
    Porter
    Gabriel

Mcturd is weak, he showed that this year, T.O owns that guy. Made his head all messed up, and now the NFC east is strong and will be stronger next year.

I'm not a Steeler flunky, but after watching the playoffs, Big Ben has to be in the discussion of the best QBs in the league. Next year could be huge for him statistically.

When you say top 3 QBs, I am speaking strictly numbers and passing totals.

Peyton and Culpepper, number wise, would be the top 2 in the past few years. Palmer could be there, but doing it once doesn't cut it. Delhomme? Please...solid QB, but not putting up huge numbers even with steve smith. Hasselbeck and Brady aren't putting up huge numbers, either.

Good...all you jack*sses here and the jack*sses in the press who don't recognize a very possible Hall of Fame quarterback when they see one, go ahead and keep knocking Donovan McNabb because you are just lighting a fire under him beyond belief. McNabb I predict is going to have a consideration for MVP season coming up which hopefully will shutup these critics once and for all - or at least for a year anyway.
  • AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
McNabb is going to have an MVP season...throwing to who?

If he had been a MAN and stepped up and told TO to shut his trap, instead of hiding being andy reid ('mr. reid mr. reid help me, help me! TO's talking mean about me again!') he would have had that likelihood. As it is, he is going to slip more and more into anonymity as the second biggest choking QB in recent history (behind peyton, of course).

For MVP next year he's going to have to go around Alexander, Larry Johnson, Peyton, among others. It's just not going to happen.

<<< For MVP next year he's going to have to go around Alexander, Larry Johnson, Peyton, among others. It's just not going to happen. >>>

You're right, but I did say "consideration" - in any event no doubt in my mind that McNabb will have an outstanding season coming up, and I do mean Outstanding. And yes right now the Eagles need a #1 WR in which they will sign a free agent WR in the off season.

  • Cullpepper is unquestionably one of the most talented Qbs in the league. When given decent pass protection, he is deadly and he will kill you with his legs too. Not even Manning can be productive when he's on his back (anybody see the Pitt game?) Unfortunately, his line gave him no protection and his defense the first part of the year was horrible. He was constantly placed in situations where he had to try to put the game on his shoulders similar to Brett Favre's situation in GreenBay.

The Vikings resurgence was a result of their defense jelling and playing well the second half. Brad Johnson was in the right place at the right time. He hit the soft part of the schedule and the defense starting playing well. Cullpepper would have likely had the same success had he not been injured.

Word is Culpepper has a chapped but because he wants a raise in addition to the 6 million dollar bonus Wilf already approved for him. Apparantley he was given assurances the Vikings would continue to keep him in the top paid qbs in the league category. He has rejected requests to rehab in Minnesota preferring to rehab in Florida and did not join his teamates on the sidelines to support them at the end of the year.

I can't imagine any team giving a first rounder and a starter for Cpepp when his knee is such a huge question mark. I hope Culpepper can stop pouting and come back strong for the Vikings next year. He is a rare talent.

  • << <i>The Vikings resurgence was a result of their defense jelling and playing well the second half. >>

That and the fact they beat a bunch of crap teams. 9 wins last year. 2 against Detroit, 2 against Green Bay 1 against Chicago (when Chicago had it wrapped up and mailed it in), New Orleans, Cleveland, St. Louis and the Giants.

They were completely embarrased against the Bears, Bengals, Panthers and Falcons and lost a close game to the Bucs.

Of course they couldn't beat Baltimore and the Steelers when they needed it.

Has DC ever won an important game? I can't think of one.

They are an average team at best.

Like I said, They hit the soft part of their schedule.

Culpepper had a big win in the playoffs last year. Beat Favre in Green Bay. Also beat New Orleans in the playoffs in 2000.

The Vikings are mediocre. But in the NFL teams go from mediocre to Super Bowl contenders every year. Culpepper is an excellent qb. A three time pro bowler who only needs some decent pass protection and a good defense to take a team all the way. So far, he hasn't been given that.

Did hear John Clayton report today Cpep fired his agent and will be a Viking next year.

Sad thing is i am not a usc fan but they have more championship in the last 3 years than Philly has in the last 20. Same with UCLA same with the angels, same with the lakers. do Philly fans run out and attack a first base coach (Chi), or throw batteries (Pitt), or throw a chair (Oak?) - nope. We boo'd Santa, and threw snowballs. Big deal. Hasn't been forgotten ... which is actually kinda cool to us fans. We get a kick out of it.

Mizzz Portis tried that angle as well .... proven otherwise, as it became clear one of her "goons" spilled the beer. That doesn't make National News.

Eagle fans were so out of control, the city of Philadelphia was forced to put a jail in Veteran's stadium.

"The rowdy fan behavior became so violent in the 700 level, that in 1998 the city of Philadelphia was forced to permanently assign a Common Pleas Court judge to the Vet on game day. Judge Seamus McCaffery handed out fines and jail, time while the game was in progress, in a make shift courtroom in the basement of the Vet. It is the only stadium in league history with a judge on the premises to process the criminal element in the stands. "

In 1989, with the Eagles up 21 points over the visiting Cowboys, "by the middle of the fourth quarter the police were involved, and after the game Jimmy Johnson needed an escort through the hail of white projectiles heaved at him from the upper deck."

"...like shooting a flare at a home Monday Night Football game..."

"...Eagles fans set an unprecedented low in cheering a temporarily paralyzed Michael Irvin..."

Donovan McNabb booed when he was selected on draft day.

Andy Reid booed at a flyers game when he was announced as the new head coach before he coached a single game.

"the story that I think illustrates how bad they can be - The Phils used to have a promotion where they would bring a Little Leaguer on the field before the game and set up a pitching to throw pop flies. It would throw up three flies in a row, each higher than the previous one. If the kid caught the first one, everyone in the stadium got a free pepsi at Pizza Hut. If he caught the second one, it was free bread sticks, and if he caught the third one, it was a free personal pizza. You cannot imagine the treatment these ten year old kids got if they failed to catch all three."

Trying to fight Tie Domi in the penalty box.

The before mentioned booing of Santa Claus.

Yeah, those philly fans are class acts!

Ax - wake up and recognize the satire. I do not participate in any type of rude behavior as a Philly fan, and in fact do my best to spread good cheer when I'm there for games. I stay at the visiting team hotel during the NFL season and have plenty of contact with opposing fans and players.

The incidents you mentioned happened long ago and in some of the stories you do not know all of the facts. The McNabb booing was orchestrated by a local radio host in protest when the team did not draft Ricky Williams(?). The Santa Claus booing - the scheduled Santa cancelled and they put the suit on some skinny guy who was a poor example of St. Nick. The fans booed this. Maybe it was in defense of the kids who saw that it obviously was not Santa, or were shocked to see that he had developed an eating disorder. image

Michael Irvin...crass yes to cheer when a player is injured. In the fans defense they did not know the seriousness and hey it's Dallas. I'll give the benefit of the doubt to the fans on that one.

Lighten up on the Philly fans. There are plenty of other cities where these kinds of things occur, including SoCal.

I'll join in on the group that doesn't think Dante Culpepper is a top 5 QB. Ax, you threw out some impressive numbers for Dante but left a few out too.

Don't forget, from the start of the 2001 season to his knee injury in 05, the Vikings have a very respectable 29-42 record. That's pretty impressive!! And in those 71 games, Dante has an amazing 139 combined fumbles and interceptions!!! Are you kidding??? He's the reason they're losing games. Sure you can put up some impressive yard and touchdown numbers when your team is always behind and throwing the ball. It's more convenient when you're the QB turning the ball over to get your team behind. So don't just look at the TD's and yards. Some of you guys want to look at those numbers only and then disregard them in an arguement about Manning because he doesn't win a playoff game. Culpepper doesn't either, and the numbers aren't THAT impressive when you figure in the INT's and turnovers. JMO

I'd take Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger, McNabb, Palmer, Hasselbeck, Delhomme, and evidently Brad Johnson before Culpepper.

Refresh my memory. That was the year he "only" had 20 int/fumbles combined and led his team to an 8-8 record, right?

Come on Ax, winning is the only important thing in your Manning argument, then you want to talk just stats about Culpepper??? I was just saying that when Culpepper had 4700 yards, he only had 8 wins. I'm not impressed.

Just my opinion of course. I guess if Minnesota is trying to trade him somebody who knows a lot more than you and me feels the same way.

    Wrong.

Bryant was the all-time leading scorer in Southeastern Pennsylvania schoolboy history with 2,883 points. Bryant led his high school team to a 77-13 record in his last three seasons and was a four-year starter.

His father, Joe, played eight NBA seasons for the Philadelphia 76ers, San Diego Clippers and Houston Rockets, and is a former assistant coach at La Salle (in Philly).

Spent eight years of his childhood in Italy.

Gee, why do you think he went to high school in the Philly area? Perhaps it was because his father was grooming him and wanted him to attend a good basketball school?
