Anyone else like the movie Cinderella Man (i.e., James J. Braddock)???

Comments

  • I loved the movie -- even with the overwrought sentimentality that Ron Howard brought to it. Say what you want about Russell Crowe, the man is a great actor.
  • I saw it for the first time a couple weeks ago and also loved the movie. Actually went out and found a '51 Topps Ringside (PSA 5) James Braddock to add to my card collection. It was my first boxing card purchased until yesterday when I finally broke down and bought a Jack Johnson Turkey Red (PSA 3) that I've always wanted. His PBS documentry is also an amazing "movie" and story of a true Super Star of his time.

Very cool movie. My wife and I saw it a week or so ago and we both really liked it. Ron Howard's portrayal of Max Baer was strongly protested by Baer's family as being inaccurate. Even though he did kill Frankie Campbell in the ring and was attributed in the death of another, he wasnt a mean guy as the movie showed. He had nightmares and often broke down crying for years afterward. One cool fact was that he put Campbell's kids through colledge, which I thought was a nice gesture.

  • I enjoyed the movie as well. That's to bad if they fabricated Max Baer's personality in such a way! But that's Hollywood for ya! Russell Crow is indeed a wonderful actor. He was awesome in Gladiator as well.

Lawnmowerman.....great photo of the vicious raccoon. We only wish we had such leverage while our cards are graded.....LOL.

I've been a boxing fan for quite awhile and even started collecting some Muhammed Ali cards (although I will be selling them to get some extra cash to pump into my '57 Topps) because of it.

I think that the movie was very good and Russell Crowe is a great actor. I don't like him as a person, but as an actor he is definitely solid.

That Braddock card is very cool. Almost makes me want to hang onto my Ali rookie and not sell it and continue on with more boxing cards! image
