Paypal payment "Unclaimed" question

Yes, another Paypal thingie with me.
I just paid for an item and on my Paypal account, it states
that the transaction is "Unclaimed". Normally it would say "completed". How does this work, and do I have anything
to worry about? The seller has 99.6% FB rating with over 1000 FB.
After I clicked on the details page, it says that the recepient of the email address is "unregistered". Huh?? Should I cancel it? I emailed the seller about it and will have to wait and hear back from him. Anyone gone thru this before?

What is going on with you and Paypal...They seem to be 'sticking' it to you...from Elaine and Frank Costanza...

Seller probably changed his paypal email address and didn't update the auction listing. I'd ask the seller first but you'll most likely need to cancel the first payment and send one to his current address. This has happened to me several times.

it could be that you sent it to an email address that he does not use for paypal. or the person may have a personal paypal account, you used credit or debit card and the person will have to upgrade his account to accept the payment. it would show unclaimed until it/if there account is upgraded and the payment is accepted.

Ok thanks. I'll wait to hear from the seller. If not soon, I'll just cancel it. I did click the Pay Now on ebay, so I thought everything would be fine. That's how I normally pay.
  • Unclaimed is a problem.
It has been my experience that the buyer can't cancel the payment.
The seller must do the cancellation. In the case you are talking about, the seller does not have a bank account attached to the email address that is fixed to the auction. He/she can't access your payment to put it into a operable account. The seller will have to change their addresses with PayPal to make the transaction work. I think the only way you can get it back from limbo/cyberspace is to file a claim with PayPal.
At least that has been my experience on a few unfortunate transactions.

Unclaimed payments come about two ways I my experience:

    1) You made a PayPal payment which was funded by a credit card, and the seller only has a "Personal" account and cannot accept credit card payments without upgrading his account. If he does upgrade his account then EVERY payment he received from now on gets dinged for a fee. If the seller is new to PayPal he may not know how to fix this. The seller has to "Deny" the payment in his account.

    2) If you didn't make the payment directly through the eBay/PayPal checkout system, you may have mistyped the email address. If you send payment to an email address that is not a PayPal account, they PayPal send the email address a "Join Now to Accept this Payment" come-on email.

My guess in your case is that #1 happened. Send the seller a friendly email, and see what the deal is. If he doesn't know what kind of PayPal account, it says so in the upper left corner when you log on to the (his) account. If he can't take credit card payments, you'll have to fund the account with real money. The most common way is to do a bank account transfer, then PayPal him the funds when they are in your PayPal account.

FYI I keep three PayPal accounts -

Personal - for quick no-fee transactions
Business - for the bulk of my eBay transactions (fees apply)
MicroPay - for those under $10 sales (max 5% fee - no minimum 35 cent charge)

The seller will most likely contact u anyway! As he wants to get paid.

Was your shipping address unconfirmed? If so, when I sell, that is the #1 reason that a buyer's payment is unclaimed. And it is a common occurance!

As a seller, I just look at the buyer's feedback, if I'm satisfied with it, I then "click ok" and the "unclaimed turns into a payment!"...

Six years and 100% of these "unclaimed" transactions, have all turned out to be ok for me!

    edit: Good luck!

your lucky and playing with fire. Buyers can easily burn you if they are unconfirmed/unverified. Won't matter if you followed paypal rules to the tee they will win any case aginst you. Glad you've been lucky in the past but I wouldnt take the chance.

    1) I have a confirmed address.
    2) It was paid thru ebay on the auction page.
    3) Payment was taken from my paypal balance.

Im still waiting to hear from the seller. If not by tomorrow morning,
    I will just cancel it.

a seller does not have to 'claim' this type of payment. it just goes into their account. he must have switched his email address or it is a personal paypal account and he has reached his $500 receiving limit. then he would need to claim it and upgrade his paypal account to business from personal.
