I have some cards that I think are slightly undergraded and I want to send to PSA and hope they will bump it up a grade. Can I do this by simply filling out a submission form and checking "Review" where it asks for Grading/Review/Crossover? And fill in everything else in the same manner? i.e., regular service, $15 x 7 cards, etc.

  • also, do I need to put a minimum grade down? obviously I wouldn't want a PSA 7 to get put into a PSA 6 holder. I would only want it to come back in a PSA 8 holder or in its original PSA 7 holder. Is there any risk that they will grade lower?

No risk it will grade lower, they only reholder if it bumps up. Check "review" on the form.
IMO you'd be more productive throwing the cash in the fireplace. If you really think it's undergraded crack it and resubmit. I talked to some dealers at the National that do this up to a dozen times to get they grade they want.

  • A coule of months ago, another collector sent in 4 PSA 7 1933 Goudeys for review...and one of them came back as a PSA 8. After looking at them, I was surprised he bothered to submit 3 of them - none of the PSA 7s that didn't get a bump were possible 8s in my opinion. They were all middle-of-the-road 7s. As for the card that got bumped up to an 8 - it seems like a middle-of-the-road 8.

On the other hand, I've cracked and submitted some cards only to get screwed. For example, cracking a 6 that looked like a 7 to me, only to get it back as a 4 - and finding out after looking at it more carefully after it came back as a 4 that it had a tiny speck of paper loss or something like that. So that's when I thought it may be worth a try with no risk of getting screwed.

I agree with Griffins - crack and resubmit.
