Your Opinion on this Huge Lot of '72 BB

Hi
I'm looking at huge lot of '72 BB raw cards and wonder what you think.
Is it worth it from the set-building/resale value?
What do you think of the quality of the cards?

He bought one lot and then here's another.

I'm not big on buying large bulk lots like this without viewing the cards - you could get stuck with a bunch of crap IMO.

And here's the last one I see.

He may have cherried the good and now dumping the crap?

    Just not sure on this.

I agree Stone. Look how he has the cards displayed, I think too many edges and corners get knicked when sloshing them around like that.

    I agree.

I never appreciate when someone lays cards out like that to try and impress someone with the expanse of cards!

Most hobbyists cringe when they see them like that!

I sure do. I wouldn't consider bidding on any of their cards after I see that. Those are the guys that send you the cards with rubberbands around them. He may have learned one of our buzz word, "vending," but he has no idea how to handle cards and likely no idea how to ship them.

  • Centering is a big issue with the '72s. The bright frame around the player picture sticks out like a sore thumb when it's off center.

I agree that he probably bought the lots to cherry pick and is dumping the rest.

This is the lost set of my youth, so the lot is attractive to me but practicality must reign over emotion.

It's a tough set for good centering and print marks.

Maybe when I'm about 80 and the 59s are finally finished.....

I actually bought a lot of about 200 commons from vending from a reputable dealer about 2 years ago. For some reason the set does nothing for me so the cards have just sat. I just went through them and there probably 20-30 that have the centering and the corners for a chance at a 9. So about 10-15% of my cards that were well kept have a chance at a 9. I would guess cards that are not well kept would drop to a generous 5% of cards that have the centering, corners and edges for a 9. If you are looking for high grade, I would look elsewhere. If you are looking for a big lot of commons and minor stars that will be anywhere from ex to nm-mt this crapshoot may be for you.
