Question on minimum size requirement

I sent in an Eddie Murray rookie card and it came back ungraded because it did not "meet the minimum size requirement". What does this mean - I pulled it fresh from a pack last month. Here is a scan with another 78 OPC card and it is a fraction narrower. What is the allowance? Do you think I can resubmit it and get a grade?

It means they don't want the liability of slapping a grade on it and having it come right back in their face. Though it may not be a trimmed card, they're not taking any chances. I wouldn't bother resubmitting. From the picture, that's too big of a variance to ignore. Even BGS would shoot you down with this one.

    Mucky

Did they give you a vouchure since they couldn't grade it?

Some believe they will say it's trimmed just to avoid giving someone credit?

My understanding - if the card is greater than 1/32" smaller, they will look for evidence of trimming or return it like yours as undersized.

edit: that's too bad also since it's a beauty!!!!!!

Minimum Size Req means it's too small, but factory cut. I'm 3/3 on resubmissions getting graded the second time through.
  • sagard - thanks for the info. At least that gives me hope. image I believe it's got a good shot at a 9 and would hate to think there was no chance of getting it slabbed. I'm going to sell it and would face the dilema of selling it raw at a much lower price and having the buyer not be able to get it slabbed (and probably think it was trimmed). Better to just get it salbbed, so I will resubmit it.

Mike - voucher? Yeah, right. This is the 3rd time they've returned a card ungraded, and they've never sent a voucher.

  • I received that a few months ago on a '70 hockey card. Simply resubmitted. Came back an 8, I think.

Did they charge you for it? My understanding is that Min. Size Req. cards get you a voucher or $ refunded, but Evid. Trim. will cost you the grading fee. You may need to place a call to customer service.

I would definately submit it again. I have always got vouchers for cards that came back as not having met minimum size requirements.

I also have had cards come back with the size problem. PSA usually sends vouchers a week or two later. As far as submitting them goes I had 5 out of 40 on two separate invoices resubmitted two which were very close and they did get graded. But I have to give PSA their due in that when I compared these cards to other cards they were definitely smaller which is the fault of the factory cuts. So now I check this before sending cards in. I'm surprised someone didn't come up with....

Didn't they cover this on Sex in the City?

In the episode - Carrie was having a "shoe-gasm" and discussion her shoe size and Semantha thought she was talking about the "size" of Mr Big?

    I'm making this up!
