Swiss - Zurich 1813B 40Batz

Do you think this is a 64? Surfaces are proof like and are steel grey in color.

Ron Guth told me, at NYINC, the graders loved it! I originally thought AU55, now I'm not too sure. Could be the label is making me biased.

I'm guessing you considered it AU55 because of the wreath on the obverse and lower branches and ribbon on the reverse. Is it possible that those areas are soft strike rather than wear?

That's an area I'm having learning about on Victorian coppers... image

While I think it MAY NOT PASS the Coinkat original surfaces designation TEST, I think it is MS and a decent coin. Is it a 64? I would rather see it to make that determination. I would not do a Presidential review...image

ajaan + coinpictures - weak strike is probably correct the flat area on the rev bow corresponds to the area on the obv wreath. My grading eye is used to the US and Canadian look of MS64s - to me this doesn't have that look.

coinkat - I suspect you're right about the surfaces, at high magnification (10x) I see very light hairlines in the fields.

I'm only into it at EF money, so I guess I did OK.

faint hairlines... as long as they are faint and few... is not uncommon for a PL coin dating back 193 years or so.

It's pretty clearly UNC - look in the fields there is no apparent rub.

It all depends on the luster that hasn't been captured in this photo I believe. Looks unc to me too, but something is bothering me on the reverse, perhaps a 62-63 would have been a more accurate grade.

Is there really any need to send it in for presidential (downgrade) review?

Is it possible those hairlines you're seeing are ultra-fine die polish marks?
