Any alternatives to BidPay?

While I confine all my eBay sales to PayPal (easier on both sides) sometimes in pursuit of a particular card, I have to go for an alternative payment method with sellers who are PayPal-opposed. Until now BidPay has provided an excellent (if pricey) alternative, mailing Western Union money orders on my behalf. It’s been a while since I used them, but today I had occasion to click their way as a seller who didn’t list ANY payment methods told me No PayPal. I was very surprised to find this message:

“Effective December 31, 2005, BidPay.com, Inc. will be discontinuing operations. As a result, BidPay will no longer offer payment services to the online auction industry.”

So my dilemma is – are there any alternative online money order services? For a trans-Atlantic buyer like myself who doesn’t have a dollar checking account and no easy source of dollar-denominated international money orders, it’s a bit of a blow!

All suggestions gratefully accepted,

  • Jonathan,

As you know, I will do anything I can to assist you. If you want you can PayPal the funds to me and I'll send him a money order.

I hope all is well over there.

    Best wishes,
    Michael
  • Michael,

As always, your generosity knows no bounds. I am very well aware that whenever my Great White Whale comes into view I can rely on you to fire the harpoon ... and it is deeply appreciated.

Hope all is well with you and yours. Any chance of a return visit this year?

  • Jonathan,

Unfortunately there are no vacation plans anywhere in my 2006 plans. My sister and her two girls spent the summer of 2005 here with me and my Father has been over twice in the last 5 months to visit them. He spent Christmas and New Year's there. Maybe I'll get the family over there in 2007. Of course you're welcome to visit if you make it to the states.

    Take care,
    Michael
