<< <i>Few collectors know that certain cards from this set can be found with a light black/dark brown border due to a printing error by Topps

In addition, the "P" is centered in the circle (most of his cards have an off centered "P") >>

The first part regarding the border would be consistent with a printing defect. The second part regarding the "P" would have me wondering if it's a fake. Papelbon is widely considered to be the next Clemens heir around here in Boston and it wouldn't surprise me all this buzz would result in a few questionable collectables.

He doesn't do a very good job explaining it, and the scan is useless. Looks like a regular card to me, maybe the blank ink was running a little low. And the "P" isn't visible at all, but I'd hardly call a card printed correctly to be an error.

The "Welts" card is a legitimate variation, though. Looks like someone at Topps gave his complexion a little coverup somewhere in the print run, removing a couple bumps off his face and smoothing over some acne or something. A rather unfortunate thing to have a notable rookie card for.

    What is "light black" anyway?
