New Purchase. Edward VIII pattern

Hi. Just purchased a 1937 Edward VIII pattern silver proof double florin from an English dealer. It is minted in sterling silver and has a mintage of 975 pieces. It was also featured in the Spink July 2001 auction as lot 1713. It has Edward on the obverse and crowned cruciform shields on the reverse. It arrived today and I like the coin very much, but I am unable to do any research on it. I paid 12 pounds for it. Is it as special as it sounds or is it just another G.B. coin to add to my collection? Thanks

It is not a counterfeit or fake for no original exists.
It is a fantasy piece. IIRC, there is a whole series of these Ed 8 pieces purportedly from various members of the Empire. Also, IIRC, they were all crown sized [5/-] and made of sterling silver. Just a set of 'might-have-beens'...
Also, IIRC, I believe that Spinks or Pinches authorized them and they came out in the 1980's or so...

It is a modern fantasy coin most probably by Donald Golder. All that matters is you like it very much.
has an offering, 'Richard Lobel Issue' seems to be the most prolific....
Actually, an original version does exist. The last one to hit the market sold for a six figure sum.
