Topps Vault Items

This was discussed before, but I guess I just do not get it. Are these the cards that they use to help produce the regular cards? I did not understand what is meant by "Box" in Boggs statment in the prior thread. Any info on these would be helpful..

  • If you look at the bottom left corner of the Jack Morris in your sig line you will notice the headshot, part of which extends outside the "box". The "box version" in the other thread refers to a card in which Wade Boggs entire headshot is inside the box. What was issued in packs was similiar to your Morris in that a portion of Wade Boggs head/cap was outside the box. Hope this helps!! image

Here are scans of Hubie Brooks and Steve Carlton from the "set" of encased (or boxed) cards. As you'll notice on the Steve Carlton card, the picture in the lower left box is Garry Matthews (sp?). All are blank back:

There are 66 cards in the set, all from the A sheet. I bought an uncut sheet with all 66 cards ( what Lemke refers to as "half a production sheet") a couple of years ago on e-bay. In addition to the Carlton oddity Bob shows, Carlton is pictured in trhe Mathews card and Manny Trillo is in an Indians uniform rather than the Expo uniform as in the regular set
