Indian Rupees....NEWPS!!!

A few auctions I was happy to win, especially at the prices I paid.

Anyone deal with this seller before? Seems to have a nice selection with decent pricing. We shall see when I have the coins in hand.

1900B One Rupee, India

1900C One Rupee, India

1901B One Rupee, India

Cheers,

  • I seriously doubt if he tries to dup you. Afterall, he was one seller who had an awesome set of Russian coins (including a 1834 Alexander Column ruble) up for sale and unfortunately, I could not afford to buy any of coins. His coins might be overpriced at times, but I believe that he tries to describe as well as he can, as I know someone personally that has bought coins from him. image

Nice coins! From what I've read here in previous posts, Jeff Zarit is well known and loved by several forum members image. I know him and have always found his grading and dealings to be honest. He can be somewhat of an "abrasive" individual, but personally, I like the guy & I've conducted several successful deals with him. In fact, I just saw him at the FUN show. - Preussen

Can't comment on the seller, although I've eyeballed some of his listings in the past. Hate his pictures though.

As to Indian Rupees, what a great inexpensive series! I have a bunch of Victorias and Edwards in AU or better (including a couple of gorgeous pink/purple toned pieces). It's the one British Commonwealth series, that because of super-high mintages, you can still get mint state examples for $20 or less.

The biggest problem I have is finding and determining the damned mint marks. Otherwise I would seriously consider doing a date set... and may still do so. image

Any good web pages or documents with good pictures on determining mintmarks on Indian pieces?

Nice coins and yes I have bought from Jeff before and do highly recommend him. Grades are accurate though the pictures are a little lousy. Coins definitely look better in hand!
  • I'd take a chance on any coin that he listed that I could aford. Others have remarked that he has an abrasive personality but I have never had a problem in my dealings with him... also, I could prolly throw a rock from my office to his so if there was a problem we could work it out real easily...image

Just for the record, I'd like to clarify that although I did mention that he can be "...somewhat of an "abrasive" individual," I have no problem with Jeff; Heck, I'm abrasive, too image. I like Jeff, and I've learned that behind that gruff facade is a pretty nice guy...he sometimes has nice coins for me, too image - Preussen

I agree with Preussen. A double personality, you'll have to dig up the surface to find the good stuff in Jeff.

Well abrasive personality or not, right coins and okay at business, I could care less.

Thank God for computers as intermediaries.

I also have not really had a chance to deal with him in person. I just saw that he had quite the selection of coins on his ebay store, so I assumed some of you guys must have dealt with him at least once.

We will see how the coins look when I get them in the mail hopefully this week.

    Nick

PS-Yes I am really attracted to the Rupees and minor coinage of imperial India. Very inexpensive and very attractive.
