So I was bored tonight... (for fans of toned coppers)

I was bored tonight, so I started a new project. I love all the pics of toned copper pieces, both here and elsewhere, so I figured:

"Hmm... what if there were a gallery of toned/dark coppers, including lightside, greyside, and darkside? Hmm...."

It's still in the early stages; only the front page and the U.S. page are active, but you get the general idea of what I intend it to be.

Comments welcome...

It's probably destined to die a quick death. I've already received one PM complaint here, not from anyone whose photos I've used, but someone upset on principle that I would use pictures posted here without obtaining specific advance permission, even with proper credit and the removal method.

He's technically correct, but obtaining and filing permissions/releases, let alone paying royalties is just not worth the effort for a "fun" page...

I suppose I could tout the site as a "promotional coin photography site" and then waive charging photographer's for the privilege of my displaying their efforts. image

Oh well, it was a fun idea while it lasted... (and kept me occupied for an evening image)

At least in theory, the idea makes a lot of sense and fun.

    Too bad people suck.

  • I think it could still work -- if all photos were contributed. And you could encourage anonymous contributions, to fend off any worries about security.

I like the site; interesting concept & easy to use. Hopefully you get to further develop it. I don't know anything about copyright law, but maybe this could be seen as "fair use"? Other than that, a simple message to the photographers shouldn't be too much of a problem (I'm sure most people wouldn't mind their pictures being displayed as long as they get credit).

Why not ask the original imagers for permission? I can't imagine anyone creating a fuss over this-who was the complainer?image
