  • Very nice. I like the first image the best. Could you tell me the difference in your lighting for the first and second images?

  • I guess it's ok if you like stunning early Mercs in gem uncirculated condition.........but who would like that? image

lighting is the same just different angles - two sun lamps and natural sunlight...

Lucy, KILLER photos!! Mercs are one of the hardest coins to image because they are small and relatively high relief. Unless the lighting is positioned just so, I always get "shadow" over the rims causing the area right next to the rim to be very dark. I've gotten it down pretty good, but unfortunately photographing Mercs requires me to change my lighting setup. 3 lights, different intensity. 1 @ 12 o'clock @ 40 watts, 1 at 8 o'clock at 60 watts, and 1 at 4 o'clock at 60 watts.

It's especially tough with coins that have a lot of color. Here's what one of my better "color" ones looks like. Still, not quite there yet, but working on it image

GREAT JOB on your photo and a very nice Merc image

Very nice. I only have one merc in so, so MS65 FB for a type set. I also have severl bank savers from when my Grandma was a kid. She used to get free boolets from the bank and they had slots for $3 worth of mercs.

Great photos, and a delicious 1929 Merc, Lucy.

Try using two lights, one at 2 o'clock and another at 10 o'clock, and see if you like the results better....Mike

I have never got a picture that does the coin justice. I try every once in a while though. She just does not like to have her picture taken....image
