.

Today I received a PM that strongly suggested that this person's roll of 2006 SAEs was searched. I explained that I was the only one to handle them, and they were not opened. I simply pulled them from the case and shipped them out. His response was the equivolent to "Yeah, whatever!"

As I am the ONLY person that handled these rolls, I find myself feeling extremely insulted by this insinuation. Especially since I DON'T deal in certified bullion for the most part!

I personally cut the US Mint seal on the box, taped the tube covers so they wouldn't open in shipping, and mailed them out.

None of the rolls were opened before I shipped them out!

If anyone else has any similar suspicions, lets get them out in the open!

Feel free to respond here as I have nothing to hide, or PM me if you'd prefer to.

Thanks very much.

I received my roll from you Quickly. I opened the roll, inspected them for high grades and found what I consider to be a NORMAL mix of quality for the SAE's. (actually maybe better mix image ). I have NO reason to suspect they were searched, and thank you for the excellent service you provided me. I look forward to next year image

I think it is cool that you offered to order these for the board members and handled the process, please don't let one bastidge dissuade you from doing it in the future.

  • Every roll has a few MS70s. If they didn't get them then you must have pulled them out.image

It appears that I struck a nerve with the person who sent that PM.

He claims there were no negative insinuations intended.

Sounds like I can expect my roll any time now then, cool.

Next year I guess that person can order his own box Ron!

    Man,

    Always drama on the board......

I didn't buy from the SAEs from Ron but if I did, I would have done it on trust as I have dealt with him before and I have no doubt he is an upfront person.

The thing I am hearing/noticing about these early SAEs is that the quality isn't there. Sure, there are some that are nice, but overall, people are noticing a lot of hits. So, it may appear that someone took out all the MS70 (good luck finding one and getting PCGS to agree), MS69, and even most MS68s right now, but reality seems to be that there are many with the small/light hits.

I kind of don't think very many people would order a green box (or more than 1), search through all 5000 pieces in a night or two, and rush to send them off to the people (think about it....Ron had these out to people in a very short time....I know I wouldn't try to do 5000 in a night image ).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Ron is talking about ME and has CHOSEN to make a mountain out of a molehill. I haven't accused him of a thing yet DO have a legitimate question and asked him to address it privately. He, on the other hand, chose to create this thread for reasons known only to him. IF YOU HAVE DONE NO WRONG THEN WHY GO THRU THE TROUBLE OF POSTING THIS?

THIS TUBE HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN TAMPERED WITH BY SOMEONE....PERIOD and I wanted to rule him out before I take it up with the Postmaster.

All of you that have rushed to judgement REALLY should know and weigh all factors AND parties involved BEFORE rushing into a lynch mob mentality. I DO NOT APPRECIATE this Ron..... AT ALL. Everyone here knows that I am a stand up person and if you call me out I will accomodate you.

The tube arrived in a Flat Rate Envelope not made to withstand such an awkward, heavy item. It was torn badly and the tube ready to fall out. With minimal effort I opened it and found it was NOT AT ALL SEALED and that the Eagle on the top was turned upside down with the top taped over, halfway open.

Now, I don't know about anyone else but I've NEVER received a tube in such condition before. I asked Ron a simple question privately FOR A REASON but HE has chose to be offended and to blow this out of proportion and to post this thread in an open Forum when he should have simply addressed the concerns of a fellow member in private. I have NOT accused Ron of ANYTHING but the fact remains SOMEONE has tampered with this tube!

If he is innocent (which I happen to believe he is) and is the ONLY person to have handled these, #1- Did he not notice this before he shipped it and #2- Why is an innocent man making such a ruckus, somehow seeking public approval to vindicate himself if he has done no wrong?

He adressed my question in private, to my satisfaction and THAT should have been the end of it thereby making this perceived attack and this very inflammatory thread totally unacceptable and unprofessional. It is uncalled for and I do not appreciate it one bit.

    The so called malicious PM.

    Ron,
I received my tube today and express my gratitude but I have a question. Did anyone other than you handle these? Why was my tube opened and the top coin turned upside down and then resealed with a piece of shipping tape? Was this tube picked thru by someone?

Oh, and from experience, the flat rate envelopes are not at all good for shipping heavy, awkward items. The envelope was in the process of tearing.

    Thanx,

    B00M
    **************************************************************************************************

Someone show me where malice and other "insinuations" are. A simple courteous question. PERIOD.
    *************************************************************************************************

He then offers me his explanation, which I accept and respond to by the follow up posted below at which time he runs here and creates this thread
    *************************************************************************************************

    My reply to his explanation:

    I see. Time for coffee.
    Later

Now WHERE is the ALLEGED mean-spiritdness on my part and or the insinuations?
  • BoomBoom Posts: 10,165
SO, RON...if you're going to tell it...tell it like it REALLY IS instead of what you perceive!

YOU started this thread and created this ruckus...don't run off and hide now! This is a BS thread seeking public approval without disclosing ALL the facts.

Im not trying to add to the truble but my roll had the same tape on it and the top coin was upside down, is this not normal? I found 4 of the 20 coins upside down? I have never had a roll of ASE and would like to know if this is normal when they pac them???

Edited to say that this should have remained private instead of coming out in an accusatory fashion. It serves no Good purpose.image
  • dthigpendthigpen Posts: 3,932 ✭✭
Taping the top of individual tubes with masking tape is generally done to ship rolls of SAEs that have been broken out of boxes (if I remember correctly, bgman did it in last year's mass buy). No, the mint doesn't do it, but it's standard practice of many people. Also, I've had tubes which I've broken out of sealed boxes before which had SAEs face up and faced down mixed in them. I wasn't involved in this buy, but I just wanted to make a point of pointing out Boom's misinformation.
  • BoomBoom Posts: 10,165
Thanx Thiggy, I stand corrected BUT, this IS the First tube I've ever obtained in this fashion. All others were tightly sealed and all coins were right side up.

And Ken, I couldn't agree with you more. This thread should NEVER have been created. Trying to cast me in a bad light stating that I said this and that in private, was a blatant lie. I offer my PMs copied and pasted as written and NOWHERE is there Malice or accusations.

I asked a simple question, in private, for a reason and it should have stayed that way...PRIVATE. For the record, I have only looked at the top two pieces and that's it. Bringing this out in a Public Forum, trying to make me look like some sort of unethical person was a BAD decision and in very bad taste indeed.
  • RNCHSNRNCHSN Posts: 2,609 ✭✭✭
    BOOM

    YOU are the one who brought you into this! I NEVER mentioned your name! There was no attempt to cast any kind of light upon you. Read the title of this thread, I wasn't asking for you to respond but asking if any others had the same idea? Your comments (which YOU made public, not me);

Why was my tube opened and the top coin turned upside down and then resealed with a piece of shipping tape?

    and after I explained why it was taped your response was;

    I see. Time for coffee.

If you don't see the accusation in your own statement then there's nothing else I can do to help you in this matter. I left your name and our PMs private out of respect.

All the NEW SAE tubes (2005-2006) I have received in the last 2 years do not close all the way when full. There is a 1/16th" gap under the lid unless there is a coin missing.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I will not reply further to this thread in the hope that it dies. It has degenerated into something it was NOT intended to be.

    PS

I would like to make note that email/PM can be such a poor medium, lacking in tone and inflection, leaving the recipient to guess at whether the intent of the sender was perhaps light-hearted, rather than hostile.
    Again, my thanks and apologies

Uh uh. Booms' fine and it's not about 20 measley Silver Eagles. It's the way this thread got started. I don't appreciate stuff like this. No doubt Ron is a good guy but he should have kept this private.image

    Case closed.

Boom, he never mentioned you. You could have just let it die like it would.
And, like Thiggy mentioned, they do come upside down at times....mine did this year (I bought somewhere else, not Ron, because I was able to get a lower price and because I didn't get into this year's buy).

Also, if you buy these and look around, you will see it mentioned over and over that the person who opens the green boxes to ship these generally adds tape to keep the top sealed. Some of them don't always sit tight without the tape.

I think you are making a big deal out of something that you didn't need to.
I would agree with Ron that the way you initially wrote, it sounds like an accusation.

"Why was my tube taped and the coin upside down" infers that Ron did it or knew about it being done.
"My tube was taped and the coin upside down...I didn't know they came like that. Is that common?" would have been a better, less accusatory, way of asking.

I think you are still on a warpath from the Louie thing......just mho.

As for your comments about the "first strikes"....Boom, learn about these SAEs......
    * The date of strikes for some of these date to October 2005
    * First strike doesn't mean jack on these.....too many people use that term
    * Many of these have problems, not just the ones from Ron.
    * You go off on many people. I think this time the person is innocent and that you are unfairly attacking. Again, imho.

Boom, you should have done your reaseach about the costs and what to expect if you are going to have such a problem.
The quality this year is very poor (starting out) for many rolls.
The cost/Shipping/handling depends too.......if you don't like it, maybe YOU should do it.

Poor form to enter into something as an adult then whine about it.

Again, on the first strike....what do YOU think that means in this case? If you think everyone of those was one of the first off the presses when you ordered, you have a lot to learn about these and the marketing behind them (driven by PCGS/NGC/ANACS/etc).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • My rolls arrived, just barely, the envelope had 2 tears and I'm fortunate the rolls arrived at all. The shipping container was not designed to have 2 tubes of eagles rolling about.

As far as the tape goes, I too questioned that last year and don't like it, but if Ron says he didn't peek, datz good enough for me.

Out of the 2 rolls I ordered, one is already gone. Placed 1 coin in my Eagle dansco, sold 12 and gave away 7 to the clerk's in our local Circuit Court Clerks office (Deed department), always good to keep the girls happy.
