Y#83 9.9980g .900 silver, mintage 8,224,000. Mintmaster initials on edge letters - "A" with an upside down "L". or two "Pi" characters, second one with a curved left leg. Both are listed at $25 Unc, but the first one is $350 in Proof, and the other is only $250.
They say Russian coins are going pretty high, but that sounds verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry high to me!
Wow - some of the Russian collectors out there have some deep pockets. I have sold off most of my average circulated Russian coppers and minors in the past 2 years due to prices like that. I figure that money can go elsewhere in the darkside world.
I am not suprised. Russian collectors seem to be awfully desperate for high grade coins and hence such pricing. Don't rely on your Krause on such pricing as it is completely outdated.
A proof 50 kopek has easily exceed 500 dollars last year if I remember right - a ruble went twice for that... *horror*
PL represents the mintmaster who worked during that time. If I am not mistaken, there should be another mintmaster, which is *AG*. (no, "PL" doesn't stand for proof-like )
My old Krause (version 1 from 1972, my only post-1900 one) actually has the Mintmaster written in Cyrillic. There are two of the same initials (that could easily transpose to PL). It had the coin listed at $10
Time to pick up some Russian before it gets to Moon-Money

I may be wrong, but I think "PL" is the mintmark (in lieu of Russian alphabet).
