Stupid Topps

I picked up a Topps Total Team Set Tin - Packers today. Thought it woudl be cool for the tin and the sure thing Aaron Rodgers rookie card. It also advertised an oversized Vince Lombardi card. I had thought about keeping it sealed and sell it down the road to some Packer fan (they'll buy anything image ). But I broke down and opened it. On the inside, about 95% of the space was taken up by a large piece of styrofoam. There were 16 packer cards in a cello neatly tucked into a space in the styrofoam. But on top, the oversize Lombardi card was floating freely - and all 4 corners were well banged up!! Just what the h*ll is wrong with Topps! Have they yet to come into the 20th century as far as quality goes??? (Yes, I know it's now the 21st century.) bummer...

Sorry to hear that, that really sucks, why not put it in some type of holder? Or at least some type of protection.

Yeah, that does suck. Topps does some strange things sometimes that make you wonder what the he!! they're thinking. I would think Topps would replace it though if you sent it in.

I always return stuff to Topps.

    They have good customer service.

I hate when they put boxtoppers in unprotected.

Sorry to see this - good luck on the return if you chose to do so.

  • That's a good idea on returning it. I really don't think it's worth it though for this card. I was just posting a rant because it was so stupid. One would expect that you could buy a new card that was in good condition right out of the box. I'll probably just settle for sending them a complaint and maybe they'll improve in the future. At least the tin box is in nice shape. Earlier this year I bought a tin of UD Origins, the one with a tin sign included. I got a nice Satchel Paige that already had dent in it right out of the box! At least that one was enclosed in an envelope. It must have been packaged with the dent. Some of us just don't have much luck...

  • That card really looks BAD!! I would send it back to Topps on principle alone. There really should be a GIANT BRAIN at Topps by now, or at least a history book of production/processing/shipping/marketing glitches that would be of assistance to them by now.

Just an observation....Topps has been doing stupid stuff like this for 55 years or so.

I will never forget the "Gold Scratch and Win" contest in 1992. The contest cards were so poorly manufactured that all you needed was a Mag Lite and a dark room, and presto! the Winner was yours.
I was stupid and literally played the ascratch and win game correctly, finally I got a winner after at least 15 or so failures. I sent in my "Gold Winner Card" and got back a ten card pack of "Gold Winner" stamped cards. I called Topps and was told that this was going to be the award until they got their card production problem repaired in later shipments that year.
I felt cheated because I actually was playing the game by the rules. I later learned that people were sending in "winners cards" by the 100's
so Topps put a limit on the number of winner cards you could put in one envelope, I think it was 50.
    Topps never learns.
