Home World & Ancient Coins Forum

Greetings from the bourse floor of NYINC

Got a fancy new-fangled cellular connection for our laptop, so I figured I'd give it a whirl.

I see there have been a few other reports on the show. Gene (NYGiants1960) came by earlier and spent a few bucks. (Well more than just a few. Thanks again, Gene.) Didn't bump into anyone else yet. Mr. Eureka has been behind us the whole time, so I guess that's two forum members spotted.

Things have been pretty brisk. I think we're in for another year of a strong world market. The Russians are still clambering for material, but many seem hesitant at the new levels. Auction prices were a bit weaker than expected I guess. Many requests for Finland, Colombia and even Cyprus.

Ancients are a bit slow, but we don't have a diverse or large enough inventory to accurately judge the health of that market.

Most dealers I've spoken too have a pretty positive outlook on this show. With metals climbing, this could be a very good year for the "Darkside."

Hope all is well at the show. Sounds as if I am missing alot. Are there any big dealers from the UK present?

coinkat: There's a few big UK dealers here. Baldwin's at the very least. Spink too. Did a little business with Stephen Lockett from London Coin Auctions (just traveling, no table).

rhound: We plan to be at the Atlanta ANA. No definite plans yet. The ANA did something weird with their applications this year, and I don't recall what it was right now. I think they went all digital or something to that effect. Going to have to look into that soon.

Canadian seems to be less in supply this year. We had a few new pieces that Gene grabbed. He said he was having a bit of trouble finding coppers.

rhound: We've got the Sprint card too. Still on our 14 day trial period. So far, I'm pretty well sold on it.

This is awesome - chatting with you while you're doing a show!

I'll see if I stop by tomorrow, just like ajaan I'm looking for Canadian or French.

Josh - It was great to see you again. I really like the 2 silver $s, 1935 + 1936 I bought. I think the 35 will go MS63 and the 36 MS62. The 1899 dime turned out to be the small 9s variety. I showed it to Ron Guth and he loved it.

Don - Canadian material was in short supply. Bought 4 nice large cents - 3 raw Red/Browns from Karl Stephens and a 1906 PCGS 63RB for my registry set from Mr Kruenzer (I think that's his name).

No 1858 LD fish scales. Lots of common date $s and circulated silver.

I'll post a show report with some pix tomorrow.

I attended the NYINC show as well on Saturday but due to all the rain, I did not get there until 3pm.

Met with Mr. Eureka and saw Pistareen and decided at long last to rejoin the ANS. Plunked my $50 to join them!! I am now a member for the first time since 1969!!!!!! Scary!!!

Did not get to see any other darksiders at the show. Hardly any Canadian coins at the show.

I did not like the set up at the show with all the broken up rooms. The show seemed pretty well attended despite the weather.

I did get to see two items that REALLY EXCITED ME but I must admit that I must keep it a secret for now!!!

Left at 6:30pm, drove home and by the time I got nearly home had to drive in near blizzard conditions with blowing snow. What a change in weather from a balmy 55 degree day.

  • Thank you for posting the report, it is interesting to get a 'feel' of what is going on.

I find it interesting that Canadian coins are becoming more difficult to find. I visited a small antiques fair in the UK where there were a few coin dealers. Only one had a stock of any Canadian( he only had eight and I bought the lot ! ). I will post pictures when they come back from PCGS.

    Again thanks for the reports.
