Slightly OT, a positive ebay event!

I won this auction Linkage, I've bought from Argentina before, good feedback, not too much money involved...and then I saw the seller had been NARU'd right after I paypaled (hey look, a new verb!) him. I never heard from him and I had pretty much written the whole thing off. But today I had a package from Argentina to pick up and a nice little medal it is. Not sure about the metal--not silver too light (nor did the auction claim it was), and too heavy for aluminum. A pretty little thing to add to the hoard.

Just thought I'd share--we always hear the bad stories so a good story is nice!

edited to add: BTW can anyone give a translation? Thanks image

Nice pick up, it could be White metal, a Tin compound with a silver wash.image

I wonder what happened. I've made a couple of buys from him, and considering the distance and postal authorities involved, shipping was always prompt. His feedback's not perfect, but I've sure seen worse!

The obverse(?) legend is "Orphans Charity" (It's "Huerfanos", not the "IIuerfanos" I first thought it was.)
The reverse has the date May 25, 1913 over "Mother country".

I just can't grasp why you thought it fit your collection Cathy! image

Thanks for the translation Roy image. I must admit when I saw it I assumed it was a mother and her two boys, though I still enjoy the medal even if it's not a mommy. I don't usually buy 'holey' (intentional or otherwise) items, but life (and collecting) would be boring if everything was the same image--which might explain my aversion to Morgan collecting.

    Boz--white metal is probably it--I wasn't thinking!

Given the seller's high feedback total and high positive percentage, his being NARUed more than likely is due to a credit card expiring or some such. I know plenty of powersellers that have been NARUED for Ebay fee billing issues, not because of any negative behavior...
  • nice medal, Cathy!

on the other side, ebay will NARU anybody in a heartbeat if they miss thier fee payments, but it takes an act of God and a note from his mother to NARU somebody who consistantly screws his customers (as long as ebay gets it's cut)...

Having grown up in Argentina (1945-1967) I have an affinity for Argentine exonumia. I can tell you that Argentines will strike a commemorative medal or raise a statue for any good reason (and for a lot of not very good reasons) image. The medal Cathy bought was probably used as a fund raiser for an orphanage in or around Buenos Aires.
