    Wondo:

Congratulations - that is a phenomenal effort.

A long time ago - I probably had the nicest set of 1969 Supers around. I sold a bulk of my set to Bob Earhart back in the late 1990s / early 2000s, and he went on to build the nicest set in the world which you recently bought - and have since upgraded twice.

As for Willie Mays - good luck. My best suggestion if you want to get a complete 10 set is to buy a bunch of 9s and crack-and-resubmit. That said - at least 70-85% of the Mays examples I've ever run across have a print cloud on the middle/top right of the card - and it is basically on nearly every example. That print defect, if nothing else, is the main reason this card will be so difficult to find in 10. I'm sure one is out there - and I'm sure you will get it eventually if you are persistent. Good luck.

    Cheers
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I wish I had bought Mr. Earhart's 1971 Topps Super set also - that is really neat.

I bought the 1969 set to break and resell, but I got hooked on it. image

EVERY Mays that I have ever seen has the cloud, but I've only seen maybe six or seven in person.

I am going look for another or partial set to buy and work on.

Thanks again for the helpful advice from the board members!

Congrats on being ranked #1 on such a tough (and expensive!) set. i am working on the more modest and easier to complete '70 Super set. i vaguely recall that there were some recent auctions for Registry sets from the Super series from '69 to '71. I think the '69 was a Mastro auction but i can't remember which house sold the '70 and '71 set. Is anyone's memory better than mine on this topic?

Memory lane had the Earhart 69 and 71 Topps Super sets in their auction - these sets were the #1 sets at the time. I think there was an additional 1970 Super set.

Mastro had a lot of 1969 Supers and that lot contained a Marichal 10 which is a toughie.
