The KING of One Day Auctions

This seller ALWAYS offers his items as one day auctions. He also always has a reserve, usually only a couple of collars above the opening bid price. Alsos the photos are either dark, or at bad angles, always very obscure.
I got involved in one of these auctions a year or so ago. He had a Frank Robinson autographed bat with his "Hologram of Authenticity" attached.
The Opening bid was $19.99, with a RESERVE.
I threw a TOKEN bid of $25.00 out, and bang, I met the reserve which was $20.00, and eventually 24 hours later, was paying for the item.

There are three seller listings he works under.
I gave him a neutral feeedback and he blocked me from ever participating in his auctions again.

    Cardinarky,

Did you get the item without any problems? Was the item legit?

.....I wonder why the seller would spend extra money for a reserve that was one penny more then the opening bid?? Daft perhaps??

  • I GOT the item.
I would not waste the postage to send it to PSA, let alone the cost of their authentication service, to have them tell me how dumb I was.

The one day auction is a lot like the old shell game, seen on the street corner, in the old movies.
You set up quickly and leave quickly. Allow no time to have any large crowd gather. You get in and get out.
The statement of a reserve gives the item more "legitimacy" or suggests authenticity, and a certain unstated minimum value expected by the owner.
When people constantly sell HOF items at 5% to 10% of market value, well............?

Y'know, some of the auto's look really good...if it weren't for some of the others that look so bad, I might be inclined to think some of them were real. I'd love to see the Killebrew auto on th mini helmet, the Carew auto is all messed up, even from that terrible picture.. so is the Nolan Ryan auto and the Gretzky is a pretty bad fake too. The Vick, McNabb, Roethlisberger and Howie Long autos look pretty good at first glance though.

Even from the bad photo I can tell you the Carew sig is no good...
  • I bought a Mantle jersey from another seller a few years ago for dirt cheap...sent it in to PSA and got a nice 2 page letter back with about 10 different things wrong with the sig (although it looked good to me at the time..they did have a nice scan)...I was able to get my $$$ back, but lost the $$$ on PSA grading...lesson learned (BTW...It came with a "CofA"...not worth the paper it was printed on)

This is the same seller as the beginning post under another registry.
See the reserve already met at $36.00
Who would even bother to set a reserve under $35.00 on a Hank Aaron, Willie McCovey autographed bat?
    What is the point?
Right now Aaron charges at least $300.00 to touch a bat, while McCovey is in the neighborhood of $120.00
I believe in bargains just like anyone else.
