Reholdering PCGS Slabs

Hi, if you have coin in an antique PCGS slab, and want the coin moved to a newer slab (for example the old slab is all scratched up), will PCGS always give the original grade on the new holder?
PS I am not talking about copper coins.

Yes, but the label color will now be the current sky blue.

Added: they will keep the same cert. no. too.

The only reason, I believe, they would downgrade is if you specifically asked for that type review as part of compensation for dimished value due to turning in the holder or a "goof" overgrade.

As I understand it, the graders will not see the coin when sent for reholdering. It will go directly to the slabbing room. Mac is right - you'll get a new slab with new label and same cert number.

If you want the coins to go to the graders, then select REGRADE option on form. It will be graded, slabbed, and a new cert # will be issued.

    Doc,

I just sent in an ex-Belzberg coin, an 1891 SDLL in MS-64RB, for re-holdering. The old holder was very scuffed up. $5 with guaranteed same grade. Just got it back in its new clear holder with an MS-64RB label. It is sitting next to my keyboard looking good. image
