Let's play detective....1958 Topps Jim Brown PSA 9 rookie

Jim Brown PSA 9 rookie

Hmmmm. Let's see:

-3 day auction

-Wildly off population numbers (274 sounded very low, it's actually a 1,030 with five 9's).

-96.5% feedback

-Everything else he's sold appears to be train related. The one card he sells happens to be one of the most important football cards ever.

What have 9's sold for in the past?

I've never seen a 9 before. 8's are $1100-$1500 depending on the price, centering and focus.

How's the scam work since they are accepting paypal?

Not that I could afford this beauty, whether the seller has it or not.

I'm to the point now where I won't purchase a card that is a lot of money (by my standards) unless the sellers are accepting paypal. I've tip toed through eBay for several years without being burned but the amount of scammers out there now has me nervous.

Anyway, just wondering how if a buyer pays for this auction with their credit card through eBay, how is the seller going to pull off the scam?

    Shawn.

It sure is a nice card.

Not the best FB that's for sure.

Maybe he found it on a train? image

Of course it's a scam. Probably being perpetrated by the same a$$ trying to pull this one off:

    Johnny U.

I'd be willing to bet that the same loser was the one who tried to 'sell' a PSA 9 Gretzky OPC rookie last week. He stole the image and description from an old auction on Superior's website. This creature operates out of either Italy or the UK, I'm not sure which, and has a legit-looking website set up and everything. It's all stolen scans though. He's been in operation for a long time now and from what I've heard there's not much that can be done because he's overseas. I wish I still knew the website, but unfortunately I don't. If you ever see a high $$$ card like this up for auction for only three days with a crappy scan, do yourself a favor and run. Or better yet report it to eBay.

The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I find it funny the last thing that guy got feedback on was a jar of vaseline. I wonder if he will include a jar with the Unitas because the buyer will most certainly need it while getting it in the as.....you get my point image

<<< 45/55 L-R, 50/50 T-B Hello! Are you ready for some football? Well, let's go! Jim Brown rookie card - PSA 9! Who wants it? This incredibly important card features the game's greatest back ever, according to many, and is in pristine MINT condition! Out of 274 copies that PSA has graded so far, there have been a grand total of two 9's! And zero 10's! This beauty has it all! It's extremely well-centered, (just slightly to the left) with exceptionally clean surfaces, both front and back! The black backdrop is spotless, the inset photo is focused, colorful, and clear, with only extremely light print fuzz to mar the image, the borders are uniformly creamy white, and the reverse, which is so tough on the 1958's, is beautiful cherry red colored and problem-free! All four corners are very sharp, with no evidence of wear to be found! This world class card is within your grasp - how badly do you want it?!? >>>

This tells me that this POS seller stole this scan and the description from an auction some time ago when these PSA figures were current.

Pasted from one of his auctions:

    Tiger Auction Group
    1519 E. Chapman Ave
    Suite 241
    Fullerton USA 92831

Guess he just plum forgot which state he lives in?
  • Don't make fun of 1940's vaseline. Hey, it could be a hot market; that's how he paid for the Unitas image

The Jim Brown scan looks like it's out of a Teletrade or Superior Sports auction; the dark scans they had were very distinctive.

Well, isn't this interesting, here's the Unitas from the Superior Auction. Same scan, same description!

    Well what do you know

Shipping is a $1 for the Unitas. Big spender.

That "suite" from this scammer is simply a mailbox site. Using "suite" at these mailbox sites to imply an office building room is a violation of United States Postal Service regulations.

He writes such a great description, he should work for one of the major auction houses and help them with their catalogs. Oh, thats right he stole it from them. A plagiarist and a scan stealer. He gets double neagative points with me.

Here's the link to the Superior auction description and image that this idiot lifted for this auction:

    Jimbo

If he had any brains at all he'd realize that the pop reports have updated within the past 6 years. So including the Gretzky and Unitas this makes three Superior auction lots and descriptions that were stolen recently for bogus auctions. Does anyone really fall for this stuff? I bid on the Gretzky card, which was listed as pickup only in NJ (not sure how he was gonna explain that one after the auction). The auction was cancelled and two days later I get an e-mail from this loser telling me the card is in Rome and he'll take $1,500 for it. Hmmm...seems like that little piece of cardboard is quite the world traveler.

    Did ebay NARU this seller?
    Anyone remember his user ID?

The seller's ID was tigerauctiongroup, but I'm sure he didn't even know the auction was going on. The scammer likely stole the ID after getting tigerauctiongroup to unwittingly submit his password to him at some point - maybe not even recently. We've probably all gotten these spoof e-mails. These scammers use eBay IDs that haven't been active for a long time, because that very likely means those users are no longer paying attention to eBay, or eBay e-mails.

The Unitas auction should soon follow suit...

    Just found this guy's website:

  • Anyone visit the guy's website (the guy who is in Italy)?

    http://www.top-sports-cards.com/

Alot of cards for sale on that site, think he actually owns any of them?

Its funny the eBay id is "zachspaper" and the name shows as Zachery Walker yet the guy's name is Marco and lives in Italy.

    Interesting.

It's the old "Toni Toscana" scam, for the 1,000,000th time. For crying out loud, can't someone find this @$#%# and put him behind bars?

The MO is always the same: Italy or England, high dollar cards with stolen scans, an entire fake inventory hosted on a website that is always ___-___-___.com - fill in the blanks with some variation on cards, sports, graded, etc. He always uses the three dashes. Run a Whois and I'll bet it's registered with a yahoo email addy?

I was wondering where that scamming POS Toni went to. Believe me, this arch-criminal couldn't find Italy on a map. No doubt he resides in one of those former Soviet Union countries infamous for their sophisticated internet scams.
