eBay Powerseller question

CladiatorCladiator Posts: 18,338 ✭✭✭✭✭
So I was informed this morning that eBay has offered me the option of becoming a "powerseller". Apparently there are multiple levels of this status and I would be the bronze level for new powersellers. From what I read it's totally free of charge.

My question is.... With all the crap that we give "powersellers" do you think having that symbol next to my eBay ID would help or hurt me in sales?

Comments

  • I don't think it would make a difference either way. I agreed and noticed no change.

I think it would help you.The general public I think would be more willing to trust a power seller.

I sporadically sell on ebay thru the year. Sometimes I make Powerseller status, sometimes I don't. I don't think that it helps or hurts my sales. IMO, your feedback profile is far more important to buyers than Powerseller status.

Does the powerseller status come and go depending on how much/often you are selling?

<< <i>The general public I think would be more willing to trust a power seller. >>

...even though there's no basis for it. There are just as many PS scammers on sleaze-bay as there are ordinary every day scammers.

Yes, They will take it away if your sales fall below the requirement. My powerseller status would come and go back when they first started the program because I was sporadic in my sales being a part timer. Now I don't sign up for it when they send me the offer.
  • I refused to participate in the powerseller program because so many sleazy
    sellers mention it.

  • eBay spammed that offer to lots of sellers the last day or so. Mine was filed in the Trash where it belongs. The idea that you have to sell a certain amount each month for that little icon that really means nothing is ludicrous that anyone would want it unless they sell a load on ebay. We... in the Bronze category... are just carps that they are trying to trap into their little fictitious game of trying to get you to sell more. I'll sell when I am damned ready to do it.

I went ahead and joined up. Just wanted to see that icon next to my user ID haha. I was pretty surprised at the offer as I don't sell all that much. I'm sure I won't have the status for too long.
  • Make sure the offer to become a Power Seller is legit and not spam. There are many fake offers to become a power seller floating around. The only way to be sure is to go to your My Messages after logging on to eBay.

Since you have already signed up, while I was posting this. Check this out immediately. If the message is not there, go and change your Password right away or your account may get hijacked. I am concerned because you said you do not sell that much. If you have not sold at least $1,000 per month for the last three months you won't get the invite and it is likely a scam mail.

As for is it worth it? I think so, yes there are bad power sellers out there, but many buyers like buying from Powersellers. As you increase your selling you also get some benefits (advertising credits, insurance etc.) though they are not great. It costs you nothing, and provides some perceived security to buyers. Don't see much down side to joining.
    Cheers,
    Michael
  • Bump because I want to make sure Cladiator sees this, see my previous post!

Yeah, I get them quite frequently. Pretty easy to spot, though. They always come as html and I have my eBay eMail preferences set to text only.

Thanks Extraordinarycoins. You had me worried a bit when I read your posts. I went and checked "my messeges" in my eBay and there were none...BUT...I had deleted a new messege early this morning without even reading it. Just figured it was another promo for a cheap listing day or something...that may very well have been the messege.

The email I got in my normal email account linked to my eBay account looked legit to me. No requests to "click this" or "click that" nonsense. Just a notification and instructions on how to accept the invitation from the eBay website. I went ahead and signed up for it just for the heck of it. Everything went smooth as snot on a doorknob at eBay when doing it and I now have the logo next to my name in my current auctions. Thanks for your concern and help!

Here is a link to one of my ongoing auctions so you can see that the powerseller logo is actually up and I think that's a pretty good sign all is ok. I know we're not supposed to link to coins were selling on this forum so it's an auction where I'm selling a cheesy kittie cat calendar...hope no one gets pi$$ed about it.

Oh yeah. I did say that I haven't sold all that much but I suppose for the past few months I have. I recently re-org'd my collection and did a complete sell off. Everything that didn't sell in the BST hit eBay with the end result of several auctions making me a considerable amount of money in the past couple months or so. Could explain the offer.

    Double oh yeah...

Forgot...I sold that damn 1806 O129 for damn near two thousand bucks. That probably helped alot towards getting the invite too. Arg!

I agree that the feedback is heads and tails more important than the powerseller status. My feedback is pretty good I think; 735 total with 4 negatives which puts me at 99.5%. I'm kind of annoyed at that because the 4 negatives I have all came your typical eBay jacka$$'s YEARS ago! I have perfect 100% positive feedback since I've been into coins. I know alot of folks wont even bid on an auction unless the seller has at least 99.5% positive.
  • i didn't take them up on powerseller status but one advantage
is access to ebay's health care plan.
Even if you fall out of powerseller status you can maintain the coverage
as long as the monthly premiums are paid.
Believe it or not, the premiums aren't bad, but i didn't read into
what all is covered. skimmed it, looks like any other hmo.
