<< <i>I heard of this story but did he know that was on his bat or did someone prank him?

I don't know if anyone knows the real story. I've heard two stories. One is that someone at Fleer figured they were a wise guy and wrote 'FF' in on the print before it went to production. It naturally wasn't noticed until after the cards hit the shelves and viola! they sold like hotcakes as everyone needed a Billy Ripken 'FF'.
The other story I heard was that there was some natural pranksters on the O's (believe it was Pete Stanicek (sp)), and 'FF' was sharpied on without Billy's knowledge. A side blip to the story: Staniceks bat has 'Stano' on it and an early rumor that came out (around the time of 'FF') was that his bat handle said Homo. Not sure if any cards were ever found that way.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?
Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12
Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)
Not only did the "ff" card see crazy speculation ( I beleive it was up to $150 at one point), but there are about 7 variations. (Scribbled out, blocked out, the f word only blocked, etc.)

You had 'ff', scribble out, white block out, black blockout little box, black blockout big box, the famous Fleer cut--a 1/4 inch notch out put on the card from the bottom up. And I'm sure there were others. That 89 set was an absolute mess with errors and variations

Yep, I remember the $100+ days of the Ripken FF card all too well. I think I still have a couple stashed away that were going to be worth a ton someday. They are right next to my Donruss Rated Rookies of Jose Canseco.
