What is the deal with this seller?

Great Lakes Auction House. Always selling what appears to be nice raw stuff on Ebay, but are always very careful in their descriptions and often do not assign a grade to a card. I occasionally look at some of their stuff, but have always been leery.

Anyone have any experience with them?

  • I have. Read the descriptions very carefully, as sometimes the seller will rave about picture clarity, wet-looking gloss, snow-white borders, crisp edges, and then drop in two or three words about the corner crease or the writing on the back. The seller fully discloses anything wrong with the card, but the descriptions are very deftly written, and so you need to make sure you read it well. He also has his own abbreviations for card defects - he lists the abbreviation in the auction heading, but you have to read the description to see what the abrreviation stands for (like "wr" for writing on the card, or something like that - the description might read "NEAR MINT w/wr")

That said, I've purchased a couple of beautiful 1950s Bowmans from him.

I purchased a Reggie Jackson rookie that I thought was golden, at least an 8. Came back a 6. image
