Any thoughts on the new Bowman Heritage?

I have not done much baseball in a while (with exception of Cracker Jack sets), but I picked up a pack of these last night and thought they were kind of neat. Just curious what others have to say about them.

  • The little insert cards that come with each pack are pretty neat, in a nostalgic kind of way. The other 7 that come with it are pure garbage........
  • I always prefer the original cards in high-grade. I just don't get all that excited with new cards using the old classic designs. Just my opinion.

Personally I think they did a really good job with the actual design of the set. The cards really do look pretty similar to the 51 design - the painted photographs are much smoother than other efforts, such as the 02 Topps Heritage. The centering on the mahogany (thick) cards is atrocious though. Also, I wish they hadn't used the same gimmick from last year. The 04 Mahoganies are each /25. The 05 mahoganies fall one per pack.

I know odd size cards are normally less popular but I like the smaller ones.

I will say that I don't care for the pictures...too cartoonish. I don't mind "artistic" highlights but not when the players look like Sponge Bob and Patrick.
