1975 OPC Baseball Questions (rbdjr can you help?)

I have the chance to pick up some 75 OPC cards. All stars/hof'ers & RC's. Sounds like most are centered 60/40 or better and are all described as being ExMt at the worst, and NM-MT at the best... What are the value comparisons compared to Topps?

For reference, the lot includes (IIRC) Robin Yount, Gary Carter, Jim Rice, Brooks Robinson, Bob Gibson, Reggie Jackson and a few others.

Assuming they are all exmt-nm is SMR a fair guide to use? Or are the OPC's more like a .8x or 1.5x? I'm not sure...I know in high grade they seem to sell just as well from what I've seen. In mid-grade are they the same? For example if I found a PSA 6 Topps Yount RC could I expect similar returns on a PSA 6 OPC Yount rc?

I'll be checking ebay and doing some of my own research too, I just figured I'd hit up the boards for advice/opinions. Especially since I know rbd is so involved in OPC's.

Thanks in advance.

-Josh

Josh: It is all over the place.

The commons [generally] sell for less. With the star cards - it really depends on how many player collectors are following the player in question - and how high grade the cards are. There will definitely be interest in Yount and Brett - but with the other stars, EX/MT just doesn't do much for most player collectors - and the true demand/OPC premiums will be on NM or NM/MT and better examples.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I agree! I hope U can pick up those cards for cheap! Good luck!

edit: P.S. Why not try offering the seller "one price" for the whole lot ("good, bad and the ugly"!). Just maybe you can get a great deal that way?

I wasn't expecting much in the way of a premium on the ExMt-NM cards. I didn't know if SMR was valid comparitively on the higher grade examples or if there was any premium placed on Topps vs. OPC.

As for offering something for the whole lot, that is precisely what I intend to do. I think he's only sitting on about 10-15 cards, it's not a box full or anything unfortunately.

I guess my last question then would be, should I be willing to compensate him based on Topps values? I did not see OPC in SMR or the SMR Online and Beckett mag doesn't have them and I don't have online access any longer.

I'd go with the Topps values.

Edited because I misread his question.
