2006 Silver Britannia

I see at the BRM's website that the 2006 silver Britannia is now available. Usually, the silver bullion coin has a reverse proof finish; the photos posted by the BRM show it with a proof finish. An actual change in the Britannia, an error on the BRM's part, or are my eyes just deceiving me?

The bullion coins usually do have a reverse proof finish except for 2001 and 2003 there was no cameo effect at all on these just plain shiney.

I do not think there will be any 2006 proofs.

Why not ? They have made them every year so far 1986 thru 2005.

Gold yes but I think we are only talking Silver. 1998, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005 are the only years they made Silver proofs Sets. These are the years the Britannia design changed. And as Aethelred said 2004 they only did the £2. So who knows what they will really do this year?

  • I suspect they will make a proof in silver for 2006 as they can sell it for a big profit!

I'm still waiting for my order from the Birtish Royal mint. I got a letter from them today telling me that they "look forward to shipping your order within the nedxt 30 days."

Are they taking lessons from the US Mint?

They also did a 4 coin proof set in 1997, 1997 was also the only year no BU's were made.

I hope to get my 2006 BU and my 2005 4 coin set at the ANA show next month.

Don't call me. I'll be busy shopping. Besides, the place only has an Atlanta address. It's not really in Atlanta. I'm hoping we get the security gig so I can make my coin money. image
