Cello, wax, vending?

I am wondering why there is the difference between the prices with cello, wax, and vending. For example, BBCE has a 1981 Topps 500 count vending box for $35, but a wax box cost $80 and a cello costs $75.

The box has 540 cards in is versus the 500 cards in the vending box, but yet is more than twice the cost. Are there quality issues associated with vending that account for the cost difference?

Yes, that is exactly it. A vending box will have some serious corner issues,The thin blue cardboard boxes they have been stored in for years lets them get beat up a little. I have never pulled a Psa 10 from a vending box and very few 9's. cello will have corner issues as well; but not as bad as vending. I have pulled a few 10's from cello and a few 9's.Wax is better, however there are wax stains to deal with. Some people like wax better than Cello, but if you can find a cello that isnt wrapped to tight in my opinon they are better. I usually buy rack packs when I can, they seem to yield the higest quality cards.

    Absolutly.

It has been ranked before but best to worst quality I believe are:

    1. Rack
    2. Wax
    3. Grocery
    4. Cello
    5. Vending

If the vending box is really clean, it may move to 3rd, but those are VERY uncommon. I don't think you could ever get rack or wax quality out of a vending box.

I have pulled a few 10's and several 9's out of vending, but the amount of hi grade per amount of cards is way lower than with rack or wax.

Do the Topps racks from the 80s have gum in them?
