These things are gorgeous!

I've always liked these...

Gorgeous Gil

There's a handful of these in various grades on eBay right now. Nice stuff.

That is a great photo. Must be a photo from the World Series.

Cards are great, but big photos like that really make players from 50 years ago make history come alive.

The Mantle is a great card also.

I don't collect these but would consider it some day.

    dgf,

Thanks for the tip. I was able to pick up a Mantle on ebay for less than $20, plus a Rizzuto for just over $20. I think these cards look great. Never would have looked for them without your tip.

    Thanks,
    Tom
  • I like my Mantle as well. A very cool set, it seems like vintage color postcard issues have bluer blues and greener greens than anything out there today.

    Brum,
Its funny how Mickey's real auto looks different from the pre-print. I guess it changed over time?

It sure did, the facsimile one is definitely 50's, similar to the ones on his '51 Bowman and '52 Topps for example. The actual autograph is his later one that everyone is more familiar with. It isn't uncommon to see many player's signatures change over time like that. Heck, even mine has changed over the last ten years and I'm only 32!

they sometimes use sigs from their contracts for preprint sigs. I know the 2000 or 01 Bowman Chipper has his sig as "Larry Wayne (Chipper) Jones" along the side. So I assume they use their buisness signatures rather than their autograph signature, if that make and sense. Same thing with Pistol Pete Maravich checks and document are signed Pete Maravich rather than his usual "Pistol Pete". I saw something a long time ago where Mark McGwire signed a Tuff Stuff for someone that had his preprint sig and he circled the preprint and wrote something to the tune of "Not my sig! Not even Close!"

Have never seen this particular issue before - man, they're awesome! Both of those postcards are just gorgeous. Wow.
