Is this legit???

This seems a little too good to be true...

ebay auction

  • You know, I think I saw 1 or 2 other similiar auctions on Ebay in the last day or two. Hard to believe - unopened packs from back then...

Don't know if I'd buy one if I had the money. But I almost for sure would not buy such a high $ item from Ebay.

Where better to take pics for such a high profile item than in your car at a gas station?

You gotta be nuts to pay any kind of high price for an item like this. Firstly, I don't even trust GAI to authenticate an unopened 1965 Topps pack let alone an old pack of cigarettes. Also the facts are that a number of these cigarette packs originally had no cards at all, and then a number of those which had cards had some picture of a bird or something and these cards sell very cheap on ebay. So the odds of a baseball card in that pack are either nil or extremely slim, and then chances are it's been ruined by tobacco stains seeping through the pack or something else such as moisture damage. Maybe I'd take a flyer for $10 and open it and laugh if nothing was in there, but it's at over $500 already - just a rediculous waste of money.
  • You spend that much on that pack (or more) and you don't get a card in the pack...you might as well smoke the 100 year old cigs and put yourself out of misery.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Does this seller really think he's fooling anybody with these phony questions he's asked to himself through his buddies asking the questions or other ebay names which are his asking the questions.

    Question & Answer Answered On

Q: FYI - ACTUALLY, I WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE FAMOUS WAGNER CARD PRIOR TO MCNALL AND GRETZKY, BUT NO ONE EVER MENTIONS MY NAME. CHECK OUT THE NEW YORK NEWS ARTICLE OF SUNDAY MARCH 25, 2001, WRITTEN BY MICHAEL O'KEEFE AND BILL MADDEN. MY CARD WAS A PIEDMONT BACK, THE SAME ONE THAT SOLD AT CHRISTIES AND LATER ON EBAY, AND SO FORTH.

A: fyi--IF YOU STORY IS CORRECT, THEN AT ONE TIME, I ACTUALLY HAD THAT CARD IN MY HAND. I BOUGHT WHAT I THOUGHT TO BE A HONUS T206 LONG STORY SHORT--I FLEW OUT TO MCNALLS AUCTION COMPANY IN CAL. TO MEET AND SEE IF MINE WAS AUTHENTIC. THEY HANDED ME THEIRS, I LOOKED AT MINE AND KNEW, I HAD THE REAL DEAL----UNTIL WE WENT TO THEIR APPRAISER WHO QUICKLY INFORM ME, MINE WAS COUNTERFIT. EXPENSIVE LESSON. BEST OF LUCK AND WHAT A COINCIDENCE. TAKE CARE. I WILL CHECK IT OUT. HOW MUCH DID YOU SELL IF FOR? HOW DID YOU HAVE IT?

Q: Just a little FYI. There have been 50-60 Wagners surface and only 3 have had piedmont backs. Your pack is from the right factory to have the Wagner though and it would definitely be cool if a Wagner was inside.

A: JUST CURIOUS WHERE YOU GET YOUR INFO AND THANKS VERY MUCH.

Q: I don't know if a honus wagner would be in this pack. Because i believe sweet caporal was the only one he was on when he had them stop putting his name on products linked to tabbacco because of children. And there are only 55-60 of these cards exist.

A: ACTUALLY ---THE ONE THAT BRUCE MCNALL AND WAYNE GRETZKY OWNED--THE ONE THAT SOLD FOR $1,200,000 WAS A PIEDMONT BACK. THANKS AND BEST OF LUCK
