Need a new set!!

I have finished my Al Kaline basic and my 1969 Topps Super - what's next.

I have a set of 1964 Detroit Tiger milk caps that maybe I can get graded and listed.

I really don't think I could do one of the 500-800 card sets.

I've always liked 1971 Topps Supers.

Does PSA graded Aurovision records?

What about Home Run Derby?

Suggestions are appreciated! image

  • I think there's a home run derby set for sale right now. And some high $$ singles on the bay.

I am into player sets personally. I hit 35% or so (graded, 95% complete) 1957 Topps set and then ran out of steam. That was only 407 cards. I like the idea of getting more than "just" the one set I'm working on. And as you must know from your Kaline set, you get the same player, but those oddball cards make it a little more interesting.

Does PSA graded Aurovision records? I don't think so.

I think you're moving in the right direction with the supers...small enough to actually complete, challenging to find in higher grades, within something of a budget, etc.

    1971 Topps Greatest Moments.

Seems like it fits well with some of the other sets you are thinking about. Nice design, a little off beat, will take some work to complete, not cheap but not outrageous.

I don't have any, but I always liked the set.
  • Since you seem to be a Tigers fan, do yearly team sets.

    Wondo,
Depending on how aggressive you want to be might determine what you collect. Small sets are fun and sometimes can become too easy. If you are looking for 8/9/10 quality you need to stay away from the 1971 Topps greatest moments set. They don't come in PSA 10's-unlike every set that topps has ever made there is a 10 available. The PSA 8's and 9's are more expensive than most know. Did you know that the #1 set on the registry for the Greatest Moments set is worth more than a straight PSA 8 1953 set? Yes, you can find 10-15 cards from this set in PSA 8 for $150-300, but like all sets there are many of those that will run $2000 a card in high grade. I made the 1964 topps stand up set in all PSA 8's for the price of $13,000. You can make a very nice set in 7/8 for under $8000 easily. In that set there are 7 really tough cards in PSA 8 which command a larger premium.
I have duplicates from both these sets if you are interested.
