nolan ryan

does anyone out there have knowledge of a 1968 milton bradley issued topps rc # 177 (ryan)? and if so where can i find documentation to back it up?
I've been told by somes dealers that the toy company had issued through topps his rc. i have his rc and the back is a light yellow as compared to the darker yellow of the regular topps cards of 1968.
thank you

Hi...
I will post a scan of what is believed to be a 1968 Milton Bradley Ryan when I get home from work sometime around 3:00AM.

Here is a scan of what I and Con40 (another PSA member) believe to be a Milton Bradley card compared to a regular Ryan out of the packs. I will try and point out the differences on the 2 cards. I'm not sure how well it will show up on the board as we ar limited to a picture size of only 50K. Here are the 4 main diffences on the front of the cards.
1. A white line is present on the left border.
2. The "1968 Rookie Stars" is more orange in color on the Milton Bradley. On the regular rookie its more red in color.
3. The burlap pattern around the border is a darker brown color on the Milton Bradley. On the regular rookie its a lighter brown.
4. The black color around the names Jerry Koosman and Nolan Ryan is a much darker and glossier black on the Milton Bradley. On the regular rookie the black looks dull and washed out.
Teapartyjr has actually had his 1968 Ryan Milton Bradley graded by Beckett with the Milton Bradley designation on the flip, for what it's worth. He actually got his out of a Milton Bradley game that some sold to him at his store.
Hope this helps...Donato

thank you for your response to my question. it appears from your description and picture that i have the milton bradley version. is this a variation? does it carry a higher value? and if so where would i be able to find this information.
thank you
<< <i>It is not a recognized variation by the grading companies, none of them know enough about them to differentiate them from the regular Topps issue. You may be able to command a slight premium for the card by advertising it as such, but not many people are even familiar with the 1968 MB variations. >>
Josh...
Very well put. Right now only Beckett Grading Service recognizes the variation. Unless other major grading companies like PSA or SGC or other major price guides along with a large enough group of collectors recognize this variation there is little or no premium on the card.

Beckett on-line is the only place I can find it listed. There is only one graded so far and it is a 7.5
Im' not sure if this Link will work without a beckett user id and password but click on it and try it. This is where I found it listed. Since Beckett has it listed you may be able to email them and ask them for more information on the card.
