you wont believe this!

I come in from work and check a high dollar card that I was selling. When I log into my ebay account i get a message telling me my account is suspended. there is an email from ebay stating my auctions were pulled and another from a buyer of a $900 card saying he got an email from ebay saying not to send payment. At this point my blood pressure is up and im pissed. So I email ebay and it takes them two days to get back with me. They say my account is suspended due to a negative Paypal balance. To reinstate my account I have to settle with Paypal. This would be fine except for the reason my Paypal is negative. I have told this story a few times on the boards but here it is again. I sold a high dollar item to a guy who paid with money that he had scammed on ebay. Paypal tracked the money and refunded it to the people scammed. I had already used some of it. So what I spent became negative in my account. Now I have to pay that money back in order to be able to use ebay. Is this the most ridiculous thing anyone has ever heard? I am to the point where I say to hell with em all!

  • I guess I am playing devil's advocate here but I can't say I agree with you. It sucks that this has happened to you but eBay does own paypal and they can't make you accept paypal as your only form of payment to satisfy the negative account balance. Also, it seems like they would hace tried to hit the bank account you used to setup your paypal account to satisfy the balance. Having said that, It does seem like it defeats the purpose to keep you from making money that would satisfy your account. Do like alot of other ebayers and open up another account or see if someone else will list them for you so you can get your balance taken care of. image

Edited to add: eBay has always been quick to suspend accounts if you owe them money.

I need more explanation here. If you're saying what I think you're saying (i.e. you're out of your item and your $$ because someone else did something wrong, then I guess you're right, I don't believe this!
  • my paypal is negative because a guy paid with stolen funds and what i had left was taken from me and the rest went negative. I was out the money and the card.

now a year and a half later ebay suspends me for having a negative balance. I have to pay the money that was stolen by some one else.

so i have an ebay account and a paypal account that are unusable because some ass stole from some people i dont even know.

This is a difficult situation to understand because it is so off the wall.

    Good for you.
  • Sorry, but you lose! Deal with it! Part of soing business!
  • The ONLY way Ebay has any recourse here is if you use your Paypal account to pay your Ebay fees and that they have fallen behind because of it. If that's the case...close the Paypal account and don't use it. Use another credit card to pay Ebay fees.

They can't hold you liable for Ebay business because of your Paypal balance.....there's either more to the story..or we are all missing something here.

The 2 have to be tied together at some point in order for this to happen..if that's the case.

That would be like me telling a cash customer at my store that he can't buy from me because he still owes me $$$ for an Ebay transaction...

    Something just doesn't add up...

Paypal has always dealt with its customers in a heavy handed manner. In essence, paypal works great UNLESS you have an issue. On the surface, it would make more sense for the scammer to have the negative balance instead of paypal coming after you. But let's say someone robbed another person and subsequently bought something from you for $5,000 cash...would the police let you keep the money after the guy gets caught?
