Is this Jim Rice's year at last?

With the ballot results out tomorrow, I was wondering whether, given this year's (relatively) slim pickings and the stellar line-ups in upcoming years, either by default or because voters decide to tidy up left-over business - he finally makes it?

I've been wondering the same thing. Everybody I've heard talk about or write about it seems to be giving him a 50-50 shot at it. I have heard several writers indicate that they went ahead and voted for him this year so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
  • Signs he is getting into the HOF: I just lost a bid for his Topps Mini RC in PSA 9 and it closed %40 over SMR!

I was the underbidder. SMR is off on that card. It went a little high, but not much.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • Thanks, guys.

Hope those omens are right - I picked up an auto card for $12.50 last week, just in case. Last time I did that was with Eckersley two years ago. Let's see if I'm two-for-two!

BTW, SI.com is pointing in the direction of Sutter and Gossage this morning. We'll see ...

  • Just talked myself into picking up a Gossage auto for $10 so I'm now covered across the board.

    Fingers crossed.

Espn looks to leaning towards Sutter

  • Yep, a very comprehensive & convincing case made:

    Sutter's time is now

Rice might get squeezed out ... again. I am now prepared to forecast:

    Sutter AND Rice

    Anyone else?

I will guess noone which imo is what it should be. The HOF should not be for stars but the best of the best and I don't believe anyone meets that criteria.

  • Ok, I have now officially gone HOF crazy - just picked up a Blyleven for $5.99.

I hope they announce the result before I start scouring eBay for Mario Mendoza autosimage

Poor Rice. He's the Rodney Dangerfield of baseball.

I still think his rookie cards are especially undervalued.
