What is the proper decorum for approaching a registry collector.....

with a potential buy, sell or trade? I have initiated one, and someone else has contacted me offering another. Both communications have been polite, but so far fruitless. Any pointers?

I have always emailed them if they included an address with their sets, or PM'd them if they post here.

I have also been contacted both ways too.

I have made some deals in this manner both buying and selling.

I always like getting emails regarding sets I've registered, that is why the email is listed. Sometimes it's just to spam an ebay auction, but often it is to offer me cards or just talk about the set.
If the deals aren't panning out it may be because the collector isn't actively working on that set, or is out of touch with the current market for that issue. Can't do anything about the former, but if it is the latter citing recent sales often helps to bring about some sort of agreement.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

I agree. One of my favorite recent deals came via a contact from the registry. I was able to nearly complete a set that I was stalled on. Now I'm down to a single card.

I agree as well. I've approached a few people and gotten interspersed responses. I've also been approached and have made several deals. GregM and Jasp24 have been two guys that have helped me a lot in my pursuit of the Key Card fb registry sets. I think if the email addy is there, or they are active posters here, a quick, polite email will do the trick. Gauge interest first if possible then present your wares. Also if you're trying to see if someone has dupes or another card they've since upgraded it may be worth checking their registered sets as some people put their extras in there. I've found a couple cards that way.

    Best of luck.

I've always found that going onto Lexis Nexis and finding as much personal information about the individual is appropriate. That way - if they rebuff your offer, you can start asking inappropriate questions about the person's family, criminal history or tax returns. Then - they will usually send you the card so as to mitigate the stalker risk. BTW - that's the real reason Vargha left these forums....
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Usually anyone who leaves thier email doesn't mind getting contacted. That is why I leave mine. I have picked up many cards this way
