$20 saved on a Steve Young card

I'm a happy man. Paid $14.99 for a PSA 10 1988 Topps Steve Young. The last one went for $35 (earlier this week).

From my most recent blog entry at The Immaculate Collection site:

The card gods are shining upon me. While doing my usually several-times-a-day search for PSA 10 1988 Topps football cards on eBay, I was disappointed to come up with nothing (well, nothing new) for the second straight day. Moments later, I ran into a seller ("puckhd27") who was listing new cards right away for $9.99/Buy It Now $14.99. The first one I noticed was a #4 Record Breaker Joe Montana. Instead of placing the first bid, I just snatched it at $14.99. But that wasn't the best part. As you see in past entries, I lost out on the #39 Steve Young card to a guy who wanted to pay $35 for it after it had been sitting in a seller's store at $16.99 for months. Well "puckhd27" listed that card next...for the same price as the Montana! I snatched it immediately as well for $14.99! Woo hoo! The other card he had at the same price was the #103 Warren Moon which I received a couple days ago from another seller. Other good news is the fantastic $1.50 + $0.50 each additional shipping charges by this seller. I will be checking out his other stuff too. Last night, I opened box one of two 1988 Topps Football and was happy with about eight cards that I felt confident sending into PSA for Gem Mint 10 possibilities. One of those was the infamous #39 Steve Young card, so I'll now have seven to send in from that box. I've never looked so hard at cards before. Any little thing I saw wrong with one of them made me put it in the "no" pile. After the second box, if I do not have 25 total to send in (the current Set Registry special is $5/card with a 25-card minimum) I may double check the "no" pile or just send in other cards.

  • You're not that far from #3 and #2 - keep checking Ebay faithfully and you will be right up there. However, MOSH will be tough to catch. In the Lawrence Taylor Master Set, MOSH sits there in last place but I get the feeling he/it will erupt with a massive submission, so I have my own blitz package prepared . image
