Home Metal Detecting

I found a place that used to be a homestead

I was surprised to find the old the well. This past fall when I was hunting (deer) I came across a large hole that is an old cellar hole in the side of the hill. I took a couple of steps not watching and came upon a hand dug well about 40 inches across and god knows how deep, but it was deep. There was a hole left at the top large enough to fall through and the rest was stoned up. I can't wait to get back there this summer with the detector. I know the landowner and told them about the open well and they never knew it was there.

    Cool!!
I expect a good year coming up for you with the new machine and three or four cool sites you've described.
  • You wanna come with me, we can see a few of them in just a couple of hours.

Ditto, though finding one that is legal to hunt and hasn't already been pounded by other detectorists is the challenge.

  • 99% chance it hasn't been hit, any of them. I'm thinking of 4 different sites that are deep in the woods and I doubt very much if any of them were searched other than me one afternoon and not thoroughly by any stretch of the imagineation.
