Catalog prices of modern silver.

I went through what's left of my world silver type collection and spot checked the prices in Krause.

Yowza!! Prices were mostly lower across the board and the later dates were the worst. Even back
into the 18th century prices seemed quite weak. Many of these were obtained or retained because
they were scarcer issues and I expected higher prices. There were several standouts that were up
ten or twenty fold but these were very much the exception.

It's hardly a catastrophy since they represent little investment and now days world coins bring a big
percentage of catalog where they used to bring a much smaller percentage.

Is this pretty much indicative of what others are seeing?

18th century prices of lower to middle-grade material has always seemed weak to me, particularly in the coppers, but Spanish Colonial silver has always seemed undervalued.

I'm sure the Internet's worldshrinking effect and the advent of eBay have made a major difference in this regard. At least that's what I've seen since '99, when I first entered the digital age.
