I just wanted to take this time to put my dad in the spot light today. He just recently got 100% on his 1958 Topps Basic Set!

By the way...if you were a REALLY good son you'd buy him a PSA 7 Gil McDougald, a PSA 7 Chicago White Sox Team card, and a PSA 7 Don Demeter.

The 1958 Topps set holds a special place in my heart. It was the first set I ever collected as a youngster. I can still remember the first pack I opened. Although it is probably the worst-looking set created by Topps in an era when the company had so many spectacular sets, I can still remember opening that first pack and seeing Pete Daley of the Red Sox as the first card.
Some day I'll put together the entire 1958 set, but it won't be a collection that most of you are chasing. I'm not looking for PSA 9s or 8s. I want cards that have rounded corners and are creased. They won't be saved as an investment in antispectic plastic holders. They will be free so that I can put my hands on them can shuffle them the way we did when trading and your friends uttered, "Got 'em, Got 'em, Don't got 'em, got 'em. . . " I want them used and worn so that I can savor the fun of going through the set, card by card, re-living memories of a mispent youth.
I won't care if somebody prints a mustache on the Ted Williams card or draws a scar on Mickey Mantle's face. I might even flip them against the wall.
This time, my mother won't have the opportunity to throw them away.
Showed my Ol' Man my set registries online and his reply? "Everyone knows what you got, your gonna get robbed"!
I'll blame it on him if that happens. He bought me my first card (73 T Gibson) and more.
