Herm Edwards & the Chiefs

Any opinions. I don't know a whole lot about Hermie, but I know a lot of you New Yorkers can help fill this backwoods midwesterner in on your soon to be former coach. Should I be happy or should I cry over losing Vermeil?

  • I don't like it ball!

I think you're (we're) gonna have more mediocrity, common since carl Peterson took over the team in the late 80's, early 90's.

You (we) will have a coach who will not take chances and will not have a "new" way of thinking. Look for another 9-7 season, and just missing the playoffs....as is so common with this franchise.

As I heard on the radio, "....the band is back together..." - from the Blues Brothers. the good 'ole boy network is alive and well in the NFL

My first choice would've been Bob Stoops from Oklahoma.

Carl Peterson reminds me of George Bush when it comes to filling open job vacancies. Carl says - 'Hey, drinking buddy from high school, you want to coach my team?'

  • Well I hate to tell you, but as a Jets/Giants fan I can tell you that he is mediocre at his very best. When he came to NY he had absolutely no idea whatsoever on how to manage a clock. It was a disgrace to see at this level. That told me all I needed to know. He's not as horrific in that department anymore, but he's just not someone who gets more out of a team than the more elite NFL coaches. You have decent personal in KC so he may get you to the playoffs, but you won't go far. It's too bad because I wouldn't mind seeing KC in a Super Bowl.

Yep - all three were in the Eagles organization when the Eagles were in Super Bowl 15. I think Edwards is a good football coach, not great, may never be great, but the Chiefs could do a lot worse. Edwards works hard, is tenacious and dedicated - you can't ask for much more than that. If Edwards can surround himself with a good staff of coaches, the Chiefs will do fine.

    Chiefs get Edwards

I'm not sure if I should be happy that all KC had to give up was a 4th rounder, or worried that all KC had to give up was a 4th rounder. Herm must have really fallen out of favor with Bradway.

  • To much hype about a guy who I believe is 39-41 as the Jets head coach. Jets fans want to know what draft picks they are getting for Herm when in fact they should pay KC to take him. 39-41 in NY over 4 years gets you on the garbage heap, good riddance!

I had high hopes when Herm took over the Jets. In the good years his teams rarely beat themselves by committing turnovers or penalties. However, the lets play not to lose, rather than to win philosophy drove me crazy. The constant draws from the 35 yard line on third down to set up long field goal misses was not smart coaching and the clock management issue was a problem to the very end. I wish him well in Kansas City. Maybe he can take Bradway with him.

Being an Eagles fan I loved Edwards as a player, but can't understand why he is being touted as a great coach.

Guess Peterson (and Vermeil) think he has something that we have not yet seen. I will reserve my opinion until he proves a skill better than he showed with the Jets.

The Jets come out of this looking like a mess for 2006. Is Pennington going to come back? Martin must be done, especially after his surgery. No wonder Herm wanted out of there.

I am of two minds with Herm.

On one, I think like many of you 'why is KC all over this guy's nuts?' He's had a couple good years, but nothing it seems in developing talent.

Then the other side says he seems to be a great disciplinarian, who might be able to do something with the seemingly endless amount of talent there is in KC. But it speaks volumes all the jets were able to get was a 4th rounder.

It'll be interesting to see if Herm is able to flourish outside the media circus that is NY.

The Jets are RAVAGED with salary cap problems. They won't be any good for a long time.

Softie, why are the Jets ravaged by salary cap problems? Who are some of the culprits on that sorry a$$ team?

I believe I read that they are going to ask Pennington to renegotiate his deal during the offseason, and he should be agreeable to it.

Well, by all accounts that I have read, the Jets have many cap problems BEYOND Chad Pennington. This hurts the money you can use to sign your draft picks and effectivley destoys what they can do in the free agent market. I will try and find the few articles that I have read which document these problems.
